R

The annual general meeting (AGM) of Reliance Industries is scheduled to begin at 11 AM on July 21. Known for his surprise announcements, Reliance Industries Limited (RIL) Chairman Mukesh Ambani is rumoured to make some big announcements today. Chances are high that the Reliance Jio 4G VoLTE enabled feature phone will be unveiled at the annual general meeting today. It is believed that the new Reliance Jio LYF-branded 4G feature phone would be priced to be as low as Rs 500.

It has been reported by Economic Times that Intex would manufacture the phone which will be co-developed with Jio and sold via a ‘subsidy model’ while other reports state that the device would be manufactured by Foxconn. If reports were to be believed, Jio’s 4G feature phone will be launched in two processor variants namely, the Qualcomm and the Spreadtrum chipsets inside.  The Reliance Jio LYF-branded 4G feature phone will feature a 2.4-inch colour display and is backed by a 2000mAh battery. The feature phone has 512MB of RAM along with an internal storage of 4GB along with a microSD card. The connectivity features of the new Jio feature phone include Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 4.1 and GPS and will come pre-bundled with Jio services and will most likely launch in August for the Indian market.

Apart from the feature phone, Reliance is also rumoured to launch its home broadband services termed as JioFiber. Earlier, the reports suggested that the organisation will offer its broadband services for free for the first three months. The company by mistake updated its website and leaked the JioFiber plans recently. The leaked offer stated that the service would offer 100GB of data per month at the speed of 100Mbps.The official handle of JioCare on Twitter confirmed that the service will be available in six cities of Mumbai, Delhi-NCR, Ahmedabad, Jamnagar, Surat and Vadodara at the time of launch

Moreover, the organisation may come up with other disruptive offers. Recently, Jio came up with two new prepaid plans – the Rs 349 and Rs 399 for its Prime members. Under the Rs 349 plan, Jio is offering 20 GB of 4G data for 56 days with no cap on consumption, while Rs 399 will get them 84 GB data valid for 84 days.
