Rotary Chandigarh gifts 1300 benches to Govt School in Mohali: Rotary Club of Chandigarh gifted 130 benches costing over Rs.2 lakh to the Government Model Senior Secondary School in Phase 3B1, SAS Nagar yesterday.
Rotary District Governor Ajay Madan and his wife accompanied with Rtn President Jaspal Singh Sidhu and other members of the Club visited the school to gift the desks.
Rotary has so far distributed over 7,000 benches in over 60 schools in the District covering clubs in Chandigarh, parts of Punjab, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, and Utrakhand.
At the time of his taking over as District Governor on 1st of July last year, Ajay Madan had decided to provide 10,000 desks at a cot of Rs.1.5 crores to the schools not having the seating furniture and benefit over 1 lakh children.
Commending the Rotarians the acting Principal of the School Ms Harinder Kaur said that the Rotary’s initiative shall help the children perform better, write better, and learn better while sitting on proper desks while they were finding it difficult to sit on the floor.
DG Ajay Madan was on his official visit to review activities of various humanitarian service projects of the Rotary Club of Chandigarh and appreciated the Club’s endeavour to sponsor two new clubs in the city and bring in new members.
He visited the Fortis Hospital and met the children whose heart surgeries were done free of cost by the Rotary Chandigarh under its Heartline Project, as also the High Dependency Unit in Govt Medical College and Hospital, Sector 32, where recently the Club had donated special beds and monitors with inverters.
