NewZNew (S A S Nagar) : Sainik Institute of Management & Technology, SAS Nagar has initiated a revolutionary step to provide free professional courses & Degree courses to Ex-service men & SC/ ST & students. The regular degree courses are including BSC –IT & PGDCA courses. Earlier the institute has provided free technical/ professional education through correspondence mode to approximate 5000 students. Stating this District Social Security Officer SAS Nagar Lt. Col. (Retd.) P. S. Bajwa stated that the admissions for BSC-IT & PGDCA for session 2015-16 are open. As such, is a golden opportunity for the students belongs to SC / ST & Ex-Service man category, to get enrolled for the professional degree courses.

District Social Security Officer said that the motive of this institute is to provide professional & Free Degree courses to the students belonging to Ex Service man & EWS categories so that they could be able to get job through technical skills. He said that the institute will provide courses in BSC IT stream & will also provide one year course on PGDCA. He said that the seats for both of these courses will be 60 out of which 30 students which 30 seats will be of BSC IT course & 30 seats will be of PGDCA course. He said that Sainik Institute of Management & Technology will be affiliated to Punjab Technical University & will charge nominal fee for the courses. He said that besides theoretical concepts, emphasize will be given on practical classes too, which will be more beneficial to the students.

Sr. Bajwa said that these course thus offered by Punjab Govt. through the Department of social security & Welfare is only for the sake of welfare of students belonging to SC/ST & Ex- Service Man categories and the priority for the same will remain the same. He said that no fee is charged from the students of above mentioned categories, only nominal fee is charged for the same. Sr. Bajwa said that Govt. has initiated various welfare schemes and scholarship is also provided to the eligible students of Ex- Service Man Category. Besides this, scholarship worth Rs. 10 thousand & Rs. 8 thousand is also provided to the students getting respectively first & second positions in the university. Also quota for Govt. jobs & other services has been kept reserved for such students. Besides this, Punjab Ex- Service Man Corporation also provides employment opportunities to the families of Ex- Service man and their dependents. Sh.
