NewZNew (Chandigarh) : Commercial songs these days provoke us more than entertaining us. Making a satirical comment on such acts, a short film titled ‘Fok-E-Singer’ will be out soon on YouTube. The film has been directed by Garinder Sidhu and Raghbir Singh Robo has produced it. The lead character in the film, Bob Grewal, has been played by actor Jagjeet Sandhu. Theatre actor Pardeep Singh has also acted in the film. The whole team met the media here today to talk about the upcoming short film.
Producer Raghbir Singh told, “With the ever growing aggressiveness in our Punjabi music, our film ‘Fok-E-Singer’ is a look at Bob Grewal who has risen to fame with the songs that glorify violence and celebrate substance abuse. Bob Grewal is kidnapped while he is on his way to Australia where he is scheduled to perform. The kidnapper through his interrogation worms the truth out of Bob Grewal and his motive behind making such music.”
Adding to the story line, director Garinder Sidhu said, “Our film is a satire on the contemporary Punjabi music industry and its produce. It brings to light in a humorous manner the ignorance and musical illiteracy of our much applauded singers, who can’t seem to see beyond their own shadows most of the time.” Born in Bathinda, Garinder Sidhu has a history of working with famous theatre director Tony Batish. After his Post-graduation diploma in Film Production, he did his Masters in Theatre from Department of Indian Theatre, Panjab University under the guidance of Padmashri Neelam Maan Singh Chowdhry and Prof. Mahendra Kumar. He worked as an assistant director in Punjabi flicks Qissa Punjab and Saka. He also has worked as the Operative Cameraman for Deepa Mehta’s next film ‘The Anatomy of Violence’.
Actor Jagjeet Sandhu has also done his Masters in Theatre from Department of Indian Theatre, Panjab University and is known for his acting in Punjabi film Rupinder Gandhi The Gangster and Qissa Punjab. Actor Pardeep also has a background in theatre. Both the actors take this film as their social responsibility.
