NewZNew (Mohali) : Mohali police have registered a case against Punjabi singers — Jarnail Singh Jelly and Maninder Singh Manga — charging the duo with gang-rape, abduction and assault. Jarnail, who is popularly known by his nickname Jelly, and his friend Manga had allegedly gang-raped a 30-year-old Punjabi actress, filmed their crime, and blackmailed the victim, who is a resident of Chandigarh.
According to the FIR, the victim, who has been living separately from her husband and fighting a divorce and alimony case in the court, was allegedly drugged and raped in July this year, but the police were not approached as the accused had threatened her with uploading the ‘rape video’ online. When the woman got pregnant, Jelly, Manga, their common friend Charanpreet Singh — a song writer — and another friend Swaran Singh forced her to abort, the FIR added.
The FIR, registered at Phase I police station, stated that later the victim was abducted from Chandigarh by the four accused on October 17. Mohali SSP Inder Mohan Bhatti said the case was registered on the recommendation of Mohali women cell. “We have registered a case against five people, including a woman,” said Bhatti.
The victim has stated in the FIR that after the accused abducted her, they assaulted her, beat her up, kicked her in the stomach and then threw her near a religious place in Phase 1 Mohali, leaving her for dead. When she regained consciousness, she called a friend for help. She was taken to civil hospital, Mohali, for treatment from where she called the women helpline number and police number the same day.
According to the FIR, she stayed at the civil hospital for five days and finally a case was registered on October 22. Mohali police have registered the FIR under sections 363 (kidnapping,), 364 (kidnapping or abducting with intent of murder), 376 (rape), 376 D (gang rape), 506 (criminal intimidation), 313 (causing miscarriage without woman’s consent), 328 (causing hurt by means of poison, etc with intent to commit an offence), 120B (criminal conspiracy) of the IPC and under Section 66E (violation of privacy) of the Information Technology Act, 2000. None of the accused has been arrested and all of them are on the run.
Rape drug was used
According to the FIR, the woman had approached the duo in June this year for taking music lessons. Jarnail had put sedatives in her cold drink, raped her and made a video clip from his mobile at the house of Manga in Mohali. Later, Manga also violated her and made a video clip.
According to the victim’s statement, the accused gave her an abortion pill in a soft drink and forced her to abort in August. Prior to it, they had taken her to a private hospital in Mohali for abortion, but the doctors refused. According to the statement of the victim, she also called Paramjeet on phone but she told her to back off and leave town.
Friends too charged
Charanpreet and Swaran too have been charged with all these crimes except rape. The police have also named Paramjeet Kaur, wife of Jarnail, in the FIR as a conspirator.
