Strengthening surface water infrastructure in Punjab: Chetan Singh Jouramajra : Punjab Water Resources and Horticulture Minister S. Chetan Singh Jouramajra, today laid foundation stone of the reconstruction work of Azamwala Minor. The 13.41 km long minor, with an estimated cost of over Rs.9.5 crore, will enhance irrigation facilities for approximately 13,685 acres and ensure full water reach to the tail end.

Strengthening surface water infrastructure in Punjab: Chetan Singh Jouramajra

Addressing the gathering, Cabinet Minister S. Chetan Singh Jouramajra said that Chief Minister S. Bhagwant Singh Mann led government is committed to revitalize surface water infrastructure in the state. He said that the state government has restorated and strengthened approximately 14 thousand kilometers of water courses in the state. Emphasizing maximum use of canal water, he pointed out its potential to conserve underground water and reduce electricity consumption for agriculture sector. The Cabinet Minister also encouraged farmers to adopt drip irrigation, with subsidies provided by the Punjab government.

The cabinet minister elaborated on various schemes undertaken by the Mann government, including the creation of over 40 thousand government jobs based on merit and the implementation of welfare programs for all sections of society.

Welcoming the Cabinet Minister, MLA Balluana Mr. Amandeep Singh Goldi Musafar highlighted ongoing development projects worth over Rs.800 crores in Balluana. He expressed gratitude for the Punjab government’s effective response to the area’s demand for surface water.

Jouramajra acknowledged the challenges faced by kinnow growers and cited the government’s intervention to support them during a bumper crop. Chief Minister S. Bhagwant Singh Mann’s administration initiated the procurement of kinnow through Punjab Agro, with the fruit being included in mid-day meals to ensure fair prices for farmers.

Chairman District Planning Board Mr. Sunil Sachdeva, Chairman Market Committee Giddarwaha Mr. Pritpal Sharma, Chairman of District Planning Board Sri Muktsar Sahib Mr. Sukhjinder Singh Kouni, Mr. Dharamvir Godara, Mrs. Puja Luthra, Tejbir Singh Brar and Executive Engineer of Irrigation Department Mr. Sukhjit Singh were also present on this occasion.
