NewZNew (Chandigarh) : Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) president Sukhbir Singh Badal today took the party’s ‘Proud to be Akali’ campaign to the youth by launching a mobile based application to bring the party closer to the youth in a manner which is in sync with the new generation.

Launching the mobile app here, the SAD president said “I am of the firm view that the foundations of tomorrow have to be laid today. For this it is important to reach out to the youth and engage them. This app is among the various steps being taken by us to build bridges with the youth and make them partners in the growth story of Punjab”.

Mr Badal said the app would also serve as a source of information about party initiatives and achievements and also serve as a source of feedback to the party. “YAD workers and supporters can communicate their feedback to us besides connecting with the larger Akali family worldwide”. He said he would also monitor the feedback received from the youth so as to make the parent organization more responsive to their aspirations.

The party president said by launching this app, YAD had taken a step forward in claiming its right to a self standing cohesive unit engaged in uniting and facilitating the youth across Punjab. “I am confident this app will serve as the voice of Punjabi youth and provide them with an apt platform to air their views in a positive and constructive manner”, he added.

Giving details about the app, party IT cell head Parminder Singh Brar said it could be downloaded free of cost on any smartphone for instant updates on party initiatives, achievements and members of YAD. The landing page of the App displays the map of Punjab divided by five zones, replicating the organizational structure of YAD in Punjab, each of which can be clicked upon for further information. He said this cross-media platform will link web, mobile and social networking for a one-of-a-kind user experience in sync with the new generation of tech savvy youth in the State. A walkthrough of the app reveals a user friendly interface with easy to use features. Navigation is fairly simple with dedicated in-app buttons, a speedy switch between screens, and instant access to other useful links, packaged in a very urban and fresh look.

Mr Brar said any click on the landing page, leads to its respective dashboard. Three clickable icons of SAD, Sukhbir Singh Badal and YAD are displayed. Large clickable icons, graphically displayed, lead to detailed information on the party, upcoming and previous events, videos and contact details enabling the user to connect with their leaders. The app also has a unique icon ‘Proud to be Akali’, a member drive initiated by YAD which asks the users to click their pictures and upload them on the app. All users can see uploaded pictures of other members also.

Other icons, illustrate news coverage of YAD/SAD by leading newspapers and news agencies. Users can also read all the current and backdated news to gain any knowledge, get navigation links to the YAD Facebook page and  Twitter handle, access YAD picture albums pertaining to various events and rallies and read and share various blogs. The app can also be shared via various platforms including email, WhatsApp and Facebook.
