One of the main reasons why Taj Chandigarh has been able to maintain its iconic status for over a dozen years now is due to the novelty factor that the property maintains. Be it the newly re-furbished restaurants or the upgraded rooms, the hotel offers something special for its guests constantly.
In keeping with this trend, Taj Chandigarh organizes a week long Baisakhi Poolside Extravaganza annually, which offers the best in terms of tradition and also brings in something new and exciting each consecutive year.
This year the festivity starts from the 6th and extends all the way to 15th of April. The dinner buffet is laid out from 7:30 pm to 11:30 pm at the poolside and guests can enjoy a unique experience of dining under the stars.
With the entire poolside lit up with candles and decorated with orange marigold, the evening does create the perfect mood. Add to this lively folk music from the region and you have yourself a typical Baisakhi Mela set up, in the lap of luxury.
Local Punjab artisans are the focal point of the event. Right from the famous Phulkari thread work of Punjab to other Handiworks of the region, you can enjoy them all.
Baba Mehar a Charitable Trust, an NGO that focuses on women empowerment by taking care of their health, literacy and vocational skills has been allocated stalls where they can showcase and sell their products. Right from traditional bhaags, home furnishings, women’s wear to even gift items, all of them have been displayed. This has gone a long way in not only creating a great ambience, but also increasing footfall significantly.
However, the showstopper is definitely the authentic Punjabi cuisine that the Dera kitchens stir up. Inspired by foods of pre-partition Punjab, the buffet includes several festive specific delectable dishes that make this mela a must for those who enjoy authentic cuisines.Steering clear of any Awadhi or Hyderabadi inspirations, this buffet is all about Punjabi food. Delicacies like sugar-cane juice, lassi and buttermilk are served on every table with chaat, chuskis and tikkas forming a large part of the starters. Amritsari aloo wadiyan, Punjabi kadi pakoda, murg makhan wala, abmi wali machi, are the popular crowd pullers. The festival specific gud kee kheer and ganny kee kheer find many takers, while there is no denying the fact that live jalebi, emartee and malpua counters steal the show.Be it cuisine, ambience, music or even the ethnically dressed servers in traditional salwar kameez, the poolside ” Baisakhi Mela” at Taj Chandigarh impresses and draws in guests.
Priced at 1750/- per head, with special offers for children and senior citizens, the event promises to bring in the Punjabi New Year with the perfect balance between luxury dinning and ethnic cuisine.
