Traditional apparels get a modern twist at Silk & Cotton Fab of India: The artisan from all over India of the Gramin Hastkala Vikas Samiti have come to Chandigarh to exhibit their Traditional, Lifestyle, Summer: Silk & Cotton products in order to start off the Summer season, with the theme, “Silk & Cotton Fab of India“.

Traditional apparels get a modern twist at Silk & Cotton Fab of IndiaThe Gramin Hastkala Vikas Samiti founded by a group of artisans, designers, social activists, academics and environmentalists, attempts to promote exquisite traditional skill, cotton and creations of the weavers and encourage them to be contemporary and economically relevant.

More than 100 weavers are part of this year’s exhibition which includes gorgeous Uppadas, Banaras silks, Gadwals, Dharmavaram, Jamdanis, Jamawars and Sambalpuris. From saris, dress materials, items of silk & cotton saree, suit dress material, fashion jewelry, home furnishing designer clothes from each region of the country, the exhibition provided shoppers with a kaleidoscope of India’s color, diversity and talent.

Artisans from 14 handloom weaving States including Rajasthan, Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Bihar, Odisha, Chhattisgarh, Madhya Pradesh, Gujarat, Jammu and Kashmir, West Bengal and many designers from metros working in collaboration with the weavers are displaying more than 1,50,000 variety of their work here.

The exhibition cum sale is open 1st March to 6th March 2023 from 11 am to 8:30 pm at the Himachal Bhawan, Sector – 28B, Madhya Marg, Chandigarh.

The Organizer of Weaves of India, Jayesh Kumar Gupta said that the main social objective of the handloom exhibition was to promote weavers and encourage and provide a market to the handloom industry.

“The organizer has conducted over 250 exhibitions since its inception in 1997 across India. Through these exhibitions, we have been able to create a good market for the weavers and their handloom woven ware, even in places where exhibitions are not feasible.

The specialty of fabrics and prints from each state is different from the other. Such is the variety of the fabrics and designs in the exhibition,” the exhibition motive is to get pure silk & cotton products direct from weavers to customers without merchants.
