NewZNew (Chandigarh) : Mr. Nirpal Singh Riat (OBE) Global President Punjabi Circle International(PCI), a UK based organization which is committed to propagation of Punjabi culture in UK and in Punjab, held a media meet along-with renowned Punjabi Folk Singer Surinder Shinda in Chandigarh. It will be recalled that PCI had made Surinder Shinda, its Brand Ambassador and he was also honoured with the lifetime achievement award in UK last year. Said Mr Riat, “I had asked Mr. Shinda to identify children who belong to financially weak families but have singing talent. I am in Punjab to accomplish this goal. We have today held an audition from among some very talented children and have selected  5 children for sponsorship in music & singing. We have also decided to sponsor the expense of a Music Teacher for Gyan All Children Welfare Society – a Mohali based NGO.” Said Mr. Shinda, “We had shortlisted three(3) children from Ludhiana,five(5) from Chandigarh – Mohali area and  Two(2) girls. Those selected would receive free formal music training. The entire responsibility of these children as far as music and singing training is concerned will lie with PCI.” The children selected Rivaz Khan, Shamim Khan, Kasif, Ramzan & Ms. Nishu Khan, were also introduced to the media at Chandigarh.

It was also declared last year that the next awards ceremony would be held in Punjab. Accordingly journalists were informed that come October 2015 and awards on a similar pattern to UK will be held. These will see honouring of Punjabi singers, musicians, producers and those related to the Punjabi Music Industry even Punjabi singers from abroad will be recognized for their service.

Mr. Riat also has plans to establish a Music Academy in his parent district Jalandhar where the entire gamut of music training aspects like vocals, instruments education etc will be undertaken for the promotion of Punjabi Culture. Mr Riat candidly says, “When one watches talent shows on TV one realizes that there is so much undiscovered potential in Punjab. While thousands of youngsters take part in these shows only a few get through to the top level. It saddens me when I observe the crestfallen faces of the ones that fail to qualify. They & their parents are heartbroken, their dreams shattered; they might not get another chance to display their talent again. We want to help the underprivileged children from among these talented youngsters.”

It is noteworthy that The Punjabi Circle International founded by Mr. Paul Riat OBE in 2009, promotes Punjabi culture through music, and at the same time, raises much needed funds for charities. Mr. Riat is known for his philanthropic activities especially oriented to aid charities who fight drug abuse and to help talented singers who come from financially weak backgrounds.
