VB nabs XEN PUDA for taking Rs 20,000 bribe for running milk booth : The Punjab Vigilance Bureau (VB) during its ongoing campaign against corruption in the state, on Tuesday, has arrested Gurpreet Singh, executive engineer, Punjab Urban Development Authority (PUDA), Amritsar, red handed while he was demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs 20,000.
Disclosing this here today an official spokesperson of the state VB said the above mentioned accused has been arrested on a complaint lodged by Gurdarshan Singh, a resident of village Daburji, police station Majitha, Amritsar district. He further informed that the complainant has approached the VB and alleged that he has been running a milk booth allotted to him by PUDA, near Darbar Sahib, Amritsar in the year 2016. After he moved to Canada in 2021, his father was selling milk and other related products at this booth. The complainant further alleged that the said PUDA XEN has been demanding Rs 20,000 as a monthly bribe from him and threatened to cancel the allotment if he failed to pay the monthly bribe of 20,000. He further informed that the said accused had already taken Rs one lakh as a bribe in this regard.
The spokesperson informed that after preliminary investigation of this complaint, a VB team from Amritsar range laid a trap and apprehended the above said XEN while he was accepting a bribe of Rs 20,000 from the complainant in the presence of two official witnesses. In this regard a case under prevention of corruption act has been registered against the accused at VB police station Amritsar range. The accused XEN would be produced in the court and further investigation was under progress.
