NewZNew (Chandigarh) : The Punjab Government today released Rs 2.57 crore to be disbursed as Shagun to 1716 beneficiaries.
Stating this here today, Scheduled Castes & Backward Classes Welfare Minister Mr. Gulzar Singh Ranike said that the government had already issued instructions to disburse Shagun of Rs 15,000 to eligible Scheduled Caste, Backward class, Christian community and economic weaker girls.
He said that Rs. 30.82 crore has already been distributed to 20,547 beneficiaries under Shagun Scheme till date in 2014-15. He said that under this scheme, a financial assistance of Rs. 15,000 is given by the Punjab government on the marriage of a girl, who attains the age of 18, with the condition that the annual income of her family should not exceed Rs. 32,790.
