Girl was on way to rly station with mother

NewZNew (Chandigarh) : A 16-year old girl died while her mother was injured after an unidentified vehicle hit their scooter last night at the railway light point.

According to the police, the victim, Garima Gulati, a Class XI commerce student at Guru Gobind Singh School, Sector 26, and her mother Rajni Gulati, residents of Modern Housing Complex, Mani Majra, were on their way to the railway station when the accident took place. Rajni was driving the scooter while Garima was riding pillion. Police sources said the duo had to catch a late night train to Sonepat.

They were coming from the IT Park side and were crossing the railway light point when a vehicle hit the scooter and sped away. Passersby informed the police following which both victims were taken to the hospital.

While Garima was declared brought dead at the PGI, her mother is under treatment. Her condition is stated to be stable.

The police have registered a case at the Mani Majra police station and have started investigation into the case.

The sources said the police were scrutinising the footage of the CCTV cameras installed at the light point to get clues.
