One of the riders slayed them and made his getaway. The twist? None of the other passengers will spill the killer’s name. Wouldn’t you, too? After all, the individual saved countless lives. 22. Strange Planet (2023)

A 10-episode adult-animated sci-fi comedy series inspired by the hit webcomic of the same name by Nathan W. Pyle, ‘Strange Planet,’ as its title implies, takes place in an alternate “strange” world where blue creatures inhabit it. They are human-like, but their existence is, for the audience, a translation of the mundane human day-to-day experiences and customs that are decidedly ridiculous. Voice cast includes Danny Pudi, Lori Tan Chinn, Hannah Einbinder, Demi Adejuyigbe, and James Adomian. 21. Bad Monkey (2024- )

Vince Vaughn plays detective-turned-restaurant-inspector Andrew Yancy in the black comedy series. Yancy’s beat is Southern Florida, and though his work isn’t glamorous, a severed arm leads him down a conspiracy rabbit hole of greed and deception. He’s having trouble explaining himself to his colleagues, who already have a bad opinion of his careless actions. Vaughn contributes his trademark comedic timing and delivery of dialogue to the show, which contributes to the general dark comedy tone of the show. 20. Presumed Innocent (2024)

This 8-episode legal thriller miniseries is an adaptation of Scott Turow’s 1987 bestselling novel previously adapted into the 1990 film of the same name. The plot revolves around Jake Gyllenhaal’s Rusty Sabich, the top deputy prosecutor in Chicago, who becomes the chief suspect for the murder of his co-worker Carolyn Polhemus, whose role is played by Renate Reinsve. What is disturbing is that Rusty, who is a family man, had an affair with Renate, and there’s evidence everywhere in Renate’s home that incriminates him. How Rusty goes through the proceedings of the law while dealing with its impacts on his home life and whether he is innocent at all are what we learn about in this drama. ‘Presumed Innocent’ is Gyllenhaal’s foray into TV drama. 19. City on Fire (2023-)

‘City on Fire’ is a thrilling crime drama series developed by Josh Schwartz and Stephanie Savage, bringing to life Garth Risk Hallberg’s gripping novel. Adapted from Renée Knight’s book and helmed by Alfonso Cuarón, ‘Disclaimer’ revolves around renowned journalist Catherine Ravenscroft (Cate Blanchett), whose former life comes back to haunt her and begins pursuing her through a book. It appears to bear an eerie similarity to her own life and harbors a salacious secret that only she should be privy to. What ensues is her current life and her past, unveiled in a non-chronological order. With its engaging plot and intense performances from Blanchett and Sacha Baron Cohen, who plays Robert Ravenscroft, Catherine’s husband, ‘Disclaimer’ is an intriguing psychological thriller. 9. Chief of War (2025-)

Directed by Jason Momoa and Thomas Pa’a Sibbett, ‘Chief of War’ is an intense look at the indigenous Hawaiian culture. Starring in the 1700s, the plot is around Hawaiian warrior Ka’iana (Jason Momoa), who unites the four kingdoms in order to protect their home from the Western colonial powers. However, while looking at what the future has in store for him, he forgets about his past, which soon catches up to him, bringing with it familiar and shady faces. ‘The Studio’ is a compelling satirical take on Hollywood itself and demonstrates how Matt Remick (Rogen), the new boss of a struggling production outfit, AKA “studio,” approaches problems, such as fresh ideas, forgotten promises, profits and losses for business, and the competitive and volatile nature of the industry itself. Produced by Seth Rogen, Evan Goldberg, Peter Huyck, Alex Gregory, and Frida Perez, ‘The Studio’ depicts a seldom-seen aspect of a film industry on screen, the actual and disorganized one. That is also complemented with celebrity cameos, such as Paul Dano, Nicholas Stoller, Charlize Theron, Martin Scorsese, Olivia Wilde, and Johnny Knoxville, thus proving its big scale successfully. 3. Slow Horses (2022- )

A series of spy thrillers based on the ‘Slough House’ series of spy novels by Mick Herron, ‘Slow Horses’ revolves around a set of MI5 service rejects who have no other choice but to look to the Slough House branch and work together. Sent there because of their nearly career-ending blunders, the agents receive humble duties, with the bitter and grumpy Jackson Lamb (Gary Oldman) in charge. But the missions do put Britain at risk, and so the agents must do their best. Merging dark humor, dark crimes, and engaging plots, ‘Slow Horses’ is one of the best adult series out there. 2. Severance (2022- )

Written by Dan Erickson, ‘Severance’ is a sci-fi psychological thriller drama television series that takes place at the fictional biotech company Lumon Industries. It employs a specific “severance” practice to isolate the professional awareness of its employees from their personal awareness. When they are within, the employees have no information about their external lives, and when they are outside, they don’t know anything about their job. In such an environment, we have Mark Scout, who receives a mysterious letter regarding Lumon’s dark operations and learns that a worker who disrupted the “workflow” was mysteriously gone. Starring Adam Scott, Zach Cherry, Britt Lower, Tramell Tillman, and Dichen Lachman, among many others, ‘Severance’ is a thought-provoking drama that is at least a reflection of the work-life imbalance that the world is experiencing currently, with corporate work at the forefront. 1. Shrinking (2023- )

Written by Bill Lawrence, Jason Segel, and Brett Goldstein, ‘Shrinking’ revolves around a therapist attempting to cope with the death of his wife by reliving the grief through his patients and thus looking at their life problems differently. This, in return, helps him view his own life differently, something which apparently makes the pain easier to bear, much to our amusement. Starring Jason Segel, Jessica Williams, Michael Urie, Lukita Maxwell, Christa Miller, and Harrison Ford, ‘Shrinking’ provides an uncommon type of viewing ease that accompanies the sharing of pain, displaying reckless behavior that feels relatable and in fact is.
