29. The Kissing Booth (2018)

39 Best Chick Flicks on Netflix (September 2025)

One of the new additions in the genre of chick flicks, ‘The Kissing Booth’ is a chick flick through and through. Set amidst the idea of a kissing booth installed during a carnival at school, Elle (Joey King) inescapably draws closer to Noah, her best friend Lee’s brother. While the film was cleared by critics as one with a sexist and racial take on relationships and its accompanying stereotypes, ‘The Kissing Booth’ was made popular perhaps due to the protagonists, sultriness pertaining to the characters, and ambiguity toward teenagers and how they look at long-lasting relationships, which is an affair many can relate to on so many levels. Also, the plot is slightly diverse from typical high-school romcoms, and due to the sheer popularity of Joey King after her run at numerous similar films at a young age, ‘The Kissing Booth’ was going to be a hit. You can watch the movie here.

As Nick Evan’s lucrative case lands in her lap, emotions begin to develop between the two that can threaten to destroy it all. This Netflix Original film is an original take on the time-travel romantic genre. It is human, humorous, and grounded to start with. Noah does not leave any stone unturned to go after Avery in alternative branches of time, only to find out Avery is not for him. While there is heartbreak, ultimately, the whole movie has a blissful air about it. If you want to be surprised by a chick flick, you can watch this one here.

22. Our Souls at Night (2017)

39 Best Chick Flicks on Netflix (September 2025)

A sentimental movie about the isolation surrounding individuals with advanced age, the film centers on the significance of companionship in human life. Robert Redford and Jane Fonda take up the characters of neighbors Louis and Addie, who find solace in each other’s presence after struggling with their loneliness. Both, having lost their partners, feel isolated once the evening comes. Addie invites Louis to sleep in the bed with her on a platonic level so that they can have someone to chat with and sleep next to. They enjoy being in each other’s company and the prospect of not going to bed alone. Not everyone interprets it the same way though. You can view the movie here.

21. Set It Up (2018).

39 Best Chick Flicks on Netflix (September 2025)

A refreshingly new take on otherwise tired sub-genre, ‘Set It Up’ was enjoyed by audiences and critics alike, despite adhering to the classic chick flick “template.” Harper and Charlie are personal assistants to demanding, workaholic bosses, Kirsten and Rick, respectively. When Harper first meets Charlie, when they are going to pick up dinners for their bosses, they discover that they must get their bosses laid. Here starts the zany story of Charlie and Harper attempting to matchmake their bosses, but their efforts are not as successful at first. While they keep trying to get their bosses together so relentlessly, they start realizing that they, too, have feelings they enjoy sharing, and so, all turns out happy at the end. ‘Set It Up’ is both predictable and engrossing, something not much found in films from this sub-genre. 20. To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before (2018)

39 Best Chick Flicks on Netflix (September 2025)

One of the latest Netflix Originals to make it to this list, ‘To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before’ is a cheeky teenage romance drama with a lot of unboxed surprises. Lara Jean is a high school teenager who is reluctant to form a permanent relationship. Lara’s sister Kitty, having pity for her sister, sends all the letters to those crushes, which creates plenty of awkwardness later on. One of those crushes would ultimately be Lara’s. The characterization is welcome, and so is the narrative, which doesn’t adhere to the teenage dramedy formula. You can watch it here.

18. Sierra Burgess Is a Loser (2019)

39 Best Chick Flicks on Netflix (September 2025)

The teen drama kicks off from an unexpected romance that arises out of mistaken identity but leaves us with a lesson of body positivity and self-confidence. The coolest girl in high school and a peripheral girl befriend one another to help each other out and conquer their crushes, but it is not so tidy and linear a path. Shannon Purser, Kristine Froseth, RJ Cyler, and Noah Centineo star in this Netflix Original. A stretch, really, ‘Sierra Burgess Is a Loser’ should be watched with a grain of salt because there is much that is problematic that jumps out about this movie- homophobic comments, disable dig, and cyberbullying, to mention but a few. You can watch it here.

17. Tramps (2016)

39 Best Chick Flicks on Netflix (September 2025)

16. Paris Is Us (2019)

39 Best Chick Flicks on Netflix (September 2025)

In today’s time, it is not simple to come across someone who does not have ambitions. Everybody nowadays desires to do more and acquire places in society, which will facilitate life. But what will you do when you encounter somebody who has no ambitions and is content the way they are? This is exactly the situation of the main protagonist of ‘Paris Is Us,’ Anna. She loses interest in her relationship with Greg because she wishes to continue residing in Paris while Greg must travel and work as an air traffic controller in Barcelona. Anna, however, is quite content with being a waitress. We meet her at a moment where she is thinking about how many relationships can be influenced by one airplane crash and if life itself is always governed by an outside influence. The concept of the film is fairly emotional, but it is not very coherent as to what it is even attempting to say in the first place. The director tries a kind of “stream of consciousness” treatment to the whole thing, but movies are not the proper venue for this style to be effective. You can view the movie here.

13. Elisa & Marcela (2019)

39 Best Chick Flicks on Netflix (September 2025)

A romantic biographical movie, ‘Elisa And Marcela’ is a story of the very first same-sex marriage that took place in Spain. The film starts in 1885, when Elisa and Marcela first meet, and before long, their friendship turns into a full-scale romance. They maintain their association a secret for 16 long years, and it is only in 1901 that, having no other option, Elisa dresses up as a man, obtains the regular official proof of identity, and then goes on to marry Marcela. The film is produced on a new subject matter, but the treatment is hardly worthy of the same. The film is still an exercise in futility as it had not been able to develop interesting characters or sequences to sustain the audience’s interest. You can watch it here.

The app allows the client to choose what they want to find on a date- a poet, a musician, a friendly and warm fellow, someone with certain tastes, mannerisms, or the same interests, and so forth. 8. The Lovebirds (2020)

39 Best Chick Flicks on Netflix (September 2025)

This comedy film, set in New Orleans, is more of a comedy than romance as a couple gets involved in a crime in the most unpredictable and strange manners. It is their tale of how they struggle to extricate themselves out of the jam and persevere through a horrid night. But it is the faintly corrosive humor in their repartee and the quick-witted banter that issues from years of acquaintance that steals the show. This one is a laugh riot and captures hearts as the inter-racial couple Jibran (Kumail Nanjiani) and Leilani Brooks (Issa Rae) spar with one another over seemingly irrelevant matters. You can watch the movie here.

Can they put aside their differences and make up once again? Keep an eye out for Keanu Reeves, who has an interesting role in the movie as himself. It has to be noted that the two main actors, Ali Wong and Randall Park, are incredibly radiant on the screen with their witty chemistry and comedic timing. The film is not just a great romantic comedy; within its storyline, there are also delicately hidden social satires on Asian-American life in San Francisco. You can view the film here.
