NewZNew (Bathinda) : The ongoing Regional SARAS Mela has recorded sales of Rs 1.25 cr and more than 2.5 lacs people have visited it till March 13, said the additional deputy commissioner -cum- nodal officer SARAS mela Mr Varinder Kumar Sharma.

Mr Sharma said that the artisans from all over India have displayed best of handicrafts and have recorded sale of Rs 1.25 cr till March 13. He appealed the people to be a part of this mela and help visiting artisans to sell their products.

He added that the mela has seen unprecedented rush during weekend day. Till March around 2.5 lacs people have visited it.

Enabling students to enjoy the joys of mela, Mr Sharma said that 50 percent rebate would be given to school students, accompanied by their teachers, on all the swings. He added that entry for school teachers as well as students accompanying them are allowed free entry to mela. Also children below the age of 10 years are not charged any ticket.

Appreciating the efforts of staff on duty as well as panchayat secretary Gurjeevan Singh in selling embroidered suits of deceased Mubarak Ali from Kolkata, Mr Sharma said that suits worth Rs 3 lacs have been sold so far. The money is being deposited in account of Ali’s widow Mrs Samsum Mondal.

On March 15 singers Gurmeet Bawa, Lachi Bawa and Glory Bawa will perform. On March 16 a magic show will be performed besides performance of singer Alamgir Khan. On March 17, singer Gurlez Akhtar and Kulwinder Kelly would regale the audience. Similarly on March 18, sufi singer Balbir will perform. All the performances begin at 7 pm. Today folk dancers from Gujrat performed at the event.

Deputy Commissioner Jalandhar Mr Kamal Kishore Yadav was the chief guest today. Speaking at the occasion Mr Yadav congratulated Bathinda administration for holding this event and said that such fairs bring entire nation’s artists together and gives them opportunity to sell their products.
