Hurricanes and tsunamis/floods are possibly the most terrifying and devastating natural calamities that remind us of the fact that God might be forgiving but Nature isn’t. Hurricanes and tsunamis/floods are possibly the most terrifying and devastating natural calamities that remind us of the fact that God might be forgiving but Nature isn't. For centuries, these calamities have been on top, killing millions of animals and humans worldwide and wiping out whatever gets in their way. We cannot escape them but can at best be ready for them and attempt to compensate for the damage we have done to Nature and pray that Ewya (watch 'Avatar') or some other higher authority grants us mercy. Here are four hurricane and tsunami films on Netflix that emphasize the extent of power they carry along with a humane message in the story.

6. Pulse (2025-)

'Pulse' is a hospital procedural drama television series with a natural disaster in the background. Produced by Zoe Robyn, the series is about Danielle "Danny" Simms (Willa Fitzgerald), a third-year resident at a Miami, Florida hospital. While the series contains all the elements of any other medical drama show, such as patients on the brink of death, doctors making unpalatable decisions, romance, jealousy, and other paraphernalia, it is the storm brewing to descend upon them that increases the pressure. The hospital is short-staffed, and the personnel is unaware of what is awaiting them. In short, there are two storms that the viewers have to endure, one within the hospital and one out of it. The question is: which side will prevail? 'Pulse' is tailor-made for medical drama fans, who want something extra than the norm. It can be streamed here. 5. The Stranded (2019-)

Directed by Sophon Sakdaphisit, 'The Stranded' is an engaging Thai show that successfully combines a tsunami with the paranormal, thus securing a spot in this list. It is about a batch of wealthy students who are left behind on an island called Pintu, where their exclusive school is situated, after a catastrophic tsunami. Gradually running out of hope, they soon meet their teacher, Professor Lin, who seems transformed. Soon, they discover that the island is a gateway, and there are mysterious forces involved. Being surrounded by water, the students attempt to solve the island mystery and perhaps discover a means to depart and access civilization. The series features Papangkorn Lerkchaleampote, Chutavuth Pattarakampol, Oabnithi Wiwattanawarang, Chayanit Chansangavej, and Sinjai Plengpanich, all giving their best takes on the characters onscreen. You can stream 'The Stranded' here. 4. La Palma (2024)

A tiny island, a few tourists and locals, a volcano eruption, and a tsunami that follows. The Norwegian drama miniseries 'La Palma' loads all these into one compelling storyline that is sure to leave you on the edge of your seat waiting to know what destiny has in store for all the individuals on La Palma island. An abrupt volcanic explosion jolts the peace of the area violently, sending everyone tumbling into a cauldron of the apocalypse as officials and scientists try to figure out how not to be killed for sure. If the Cumbre Vieja explodes intact and lands in the ocean, the resulting tsunami will be the largest in recorded history. The issue isn't whether it can be prevented but whether the population can be rescued. Starring Anders Baasmo Christiansen, Ingrid Bolsø Berdal, Alma Günther, Thea Sofie Loch Næss, and Bernard Storm Lager, 'La Palma' is written by Martin Sundland, Lars Gudmestad, and Harald Rosenløw-Eeg. Stream it here. 3. The Twister: Caught in the Storm (2025)

Directed by Alexandra Lacey, 'The Twister: Caught in the Storm' is a documentary film concerning the EF5 tornado that struck the city of Joplin, Missouri, on May 22, 2011, killing more than 150 individuals and leveling many more. With footage from archives, interviews with the survivors, some of whom were teenagers, and dramatic re-enactments, the film depicts the terror and destruction wrought by the storm and the devastation it brought in its wake, to claim a place in history as the most expensive storm ever recorded. You can view the documentary here. 2. High Water (2022-)

Developed by Jan Holoubek, 'High Water' is a thrilling Polish drama against the background of the 1997 Central European flood, or the 1997 Oder Flood. It happened in the Czech Republic, Poland, and Germany, killing 114 people and inflicting damage of about $4.5 billion. We are taken through hydrologist Jaśmina Tremer's attempts to manage the crisis while it was still in its imminence, occurrence, and aftermath, and also her private problems. The question is: Whose priority is paramount? Her problems or the citizens of Wrocław, Poland. How the series manages to balance the macrocosm of the crisis and Jaśmina's microcosm of emotions is to be praised. The visuals also contribute significantly to the show's sense of urgency. 'High Water' features Agnieszka Żulewska as Jaśmina Tremer, with gripping performances by Tomasz Schuchardt, Ireneusz Czop, Blanka Kot, and Anna Dymna. You can watch the series here.
1. San Andreas (2015)

'Dean San' features Dwayne Johnson as Raymond "Ray" Gaines, a lead rescue helicopter pilot who along with his estranged wife, Emma (Carla Gugino) has to locate their daughter, Blake (Alexandra Daddario), who is lost in the destruction of the city of San Andreas that has been devastated by an earthquake and subsequent tsunami. The devastation and loss of life are untold, and the film does a fairly good job of depicting it as we see Ray flying his helicopter between the collapsing buildings. The film is directed by Brad Peyton, who does an impressive job of bringing a world-class disaster to the screen. You can watch 'San Andreas' here. Read More: Best Disaster Movies on Netflix
