NewZNew (Bathinda) : The Minister for Rural Development and Panchayat Mr Sikandar Singh Maluka said that the regional SARAS Mela being run under rural development and panchayat department has broken records of the SARAS mela hosted in state at Sangrur. He stated that during the last SARAS mela held at Sangrur around 20 lacs tickets were sold whereas till 10th day today around 2.30 lacs tickets have been sold at the Regional SARAS Mela Bathinda. He added that in the coming days 30000 more tickets are expected to be sold, which is an indicator of people making beeline for the event.

Mr Maluka stated that following the efforts of state government, Bathinda is hosting an event to encourage handicrafts makers and folk tradition of various states. More than 620 artisans from across the length and breadth of country are participating in this event that witnessed sale of Rs 1,64,50,310 on the ninth day. The sales have encouraged artisans that have come from far flung places in country.

Mr Maluka added that besides people from other states, progressive workers of Punjab too have taken benefit of various government schemes and are successfully running their business here. Adopting bee-keeping, many people are selling pure honey, turmeric, pickles, murabbas and hand embroidered suits for women. He appealed people to come out of the conventional paddy-wheat crop cycle and adopt agriculture allied business and subsequent government schemes to improve their economic situation. He added that the needy women should learn stitching and embroidery to shoulder financial responsibilities of their families.

The Minister for Rural Development and Panchayat Punjab added that on the ninth day of mela 45000 tickets were sold and including the number of children (whose entry to mela is free) around 1 lac people enjoyed mela on Sunday. He added that as compared to the 200 stalls put up at Sangrur, 250 stalls have been put up in Sangrur and different artists are also presenting varied culture in mela. He added that there is free entry for children below 10 years of age and those accompanied by their teachers.  For other the ticket is available at nominal fees of Rs 10.
