NewZNew (Chandigarh) : As many as 100 cancer survivors and doctors from Max Super Speciality Hospital (MSSH), Mohali celebrated National Cancer Survivors Day at Hotel Mount View here today . The program was organised by MSSH in association with Sahayta Charitable Welfare Society (Cancer Sahyog) and Chandigarh Breast Cancer Trust. In program, the cancer survivors and doctors sang and danced to Bollywood and Punjabi hit songs. During occasion, a musical contest was also organized where Dr. Sachin Gupta, Dr Sunanadan Sharma, Dr Gautam Goel , Dr Ritesh Pruthi Dr Pankaj Kumar and Dr Shaveta Gupta were team leaders.
Interestingly, National Cancer Survivors Day is an annual treasured celebration of life , which is organized in hundreds of communities around the world on the first Sunday of June month.
Meanwhile speaking during occasion, Mr. Sandeep Dogra VP- Operations, MSSH said that we have gathered to honor cancer survivors and to show the world that life after a cancer diagnosis could be fruitful, rewarding and even inspiring.
Dr Sachin Gupta, Sr. Consultant, Medical and Hemato Oncology, MSSH said that it was a day of celebration for everyone. This day provided an opportunity for all people living with a history of cancer to connect with each other, celebrate milestones, and recognize those who have supported them along the way.
It was also a day to draw attention to the ongoing challenges of cancer survivorship in order to promote more resources, research, and survivor-friendly legislation to improve cancer survivors’ quality of life, asserted Dr. Sunandan Sharma, Sr. Consultant, Surgical Oncology, MSSH.
Dr Ritesh Pruthy, Sr. Consultant, Radiation Oncology said that today our endeavor was to provide guidance, education, and encourage the support group groups, and other cancer-related organizations.
Dr Pankaj Kumar, Sr. Consultant, Radiation Oncology said that focus of today event was to improve life quality of cancer survivors by raising awareness on the ongoing challenges on surviving cancer.
A jubilant cancer survivor summed up that today we have gathered here to celebrate courage and to celebrate the spirit of cancer survivors. The most important thing in illness was to never to lose heart.
The human spirit was stronger than anything that could happen to it, i have learnt that when you feed your faith, your fears would starve to death, remarked another female survivor.
Meanwhile during occasion, Mr. Dogra along with doctors unveiled an informative booklet on the various treatment modalities at the cancer centre at MSSH.
