NewZNew (S A S Nagar) : Chandigarh Group of Colleges Landran organized a Seminar on Role of Applied Sciences in Engineering which was attended by More than 100 teachers of various colleges. Dr. Shubhrangshu Das Gupta from IIT, Ropar, Dr. K S Vishvanathan from IISER, Mohali, Dr. Saurabh Bhatia from UIET, Panjab University, Chandigarh and many other dignitaries share their views at this occasion.
Dr Shubhrangshu Das Gupta from IIT, Ropar told that engineering is equivalent to applied physics and all those engineers who want to excel in their field need to not only understand but also need to research deep into the applications of Physics. Dr K S Vishvanathan from IISER, Mohali said that it is the processes in lab that becomes industrial processes. He cited the examples of production of Indigo, Mercury, Nylon, Laminated Glass, Polyester and many other products that are being manufactured by the industry today giving employment to millions of engineers. Even in television industry, light industry, computer production industry etc it is the polymers that work and the relevance of their study can never be undermined.
Dr. Saurabh Bhatia from UIET, Panjab University, Chandigarh said that different branches of engineering need to thoroughly understand different topics of mathematics. Unless one knows mathematics one can’t be a good engineer. Maths is a tool used by engineers to formulate problems and to solve them.
Satnam Singh Sandhu, Chairman, CGC while motivating the students said that innovation play a key role in academics and Applied Sciences must play a role in doing research for development of engineering. Rashpal Singh Dhaliwal, President, CGC said on the occasion that CGC has always led from the front for giving the best results and international collaborations of the institutions would be explored and used to bring the best research in the applied sciences.
