Delhi Capitals beat Haryana Gold to clinch first win

NewZNew (Ambala) : Defending champions Delhi Capitals clinched their first win of season 3 of the UBA Pro Basketball League after registering a 102-90 victory over Haryana Gold on Wednesday evening marking the latter’s first loss in the championship.

Both teams were on an even keel in the initial stage with Haryana Gold leading the first quarter 26- 22.

The second quarter also saw both Haryana Gold and Delhi Capitals slugging it out for every point and it was difficult to predict which team had the upper hand.

Delhi Capital’s Vinay Kaushik, last year’s Most Valuable Player, was having a good game and scored his second 3 pointer of the game. He was proving to be a constant threat for the Haryana Gold. Haryana, having won both their earlier games, managed to take a lead at the end of the second quarter with the score reading 48-44 in their favour.

Haryana Gold had 15 points from turnovers while Delhi Capitals had none. In second chance points, Haryana managed seven while Delhi had three.

Delhi Capitals went into the third quarter knowing that they had to take the game by the scruff of the neck and they managed to take the lead at one point but the Haryana Gold were always plucking points to keep them in check.

Delhi Capitals, however, had a slender lead at the end of the third quarter 76-75.

In the fourth quarter, Haryana Gold came into their own and regained the lead in style as they led 87-80 at the first time out of the fourth quarter. But Delhi displayed great verve to take the lead again in the final quarter, buoyed by strong performances from Ajay S and Vinay.

In the end, they were able to keep their lead and concentration intact and come up trumps.
