NewZNew (Bathinda) : The Director, Department of Agriculture, Punjab Dr Mangal Singh Sandhu today visited villages of Balluana, Behman Diwana, Buladhewala, Jassi Pau Wali and Kotshamir with the Chief Agriculture Officer Bathinda Dr R K Singla and his team.
He visited the fields of progressive farmer Sandeep Singh of village Kotshamir were Dr Sandhu said the plots having directly paddy planted using direct seeding method and with high density of plants. While addressing the farmers he said that direct seeding of paddy was a part of the Save Water, Save Punjab Campaign. He added that this technique was technically viable. Around 850 acres of area has been brought under paddy cultivation using this technique. Talking about the cotton crop Dr Sandhu said that the fields having high density of cotton plants will get a good yield. It will also give respite from lack of labor.
The Chief Agriculture Officer Bathinda Dr Rajesh Kumar Singla said that the agriculture department was running a campaign in the villages to make farmers aware about the pest attack on cotton crop. Posters have been pasted at public places in villages and announcements are done using public address systems. Also pamphlets regarding the same are being distributed.
Under this the Director Agriculture Dr Mangal Singh Sandhu today flagged a batch of jeeps to different blocks that will create awareness on the issue of pest control in cotton crop. The training officer Dr Kanwal Kumar Jindal, agriculture office Dr Bahadar Singh, agriculture development officer Dr Jaskaran Singh, block technology manager (ATMA) Dr Gamdur Singh and farmers were also present.
