NewZNew (Chandigarh) : Cycling enthusiasts are set to get ample opportunity to show their pedaling skills. The Fourth Edition of National Chandigarh Cyclothon is being held in the city on December 21st. There will be many races organized as part of the mega Cycling Extravaganza. The event will witness both a competitive race and non competitive cycle rides. In the Non Competitive section a 7 Kms ‘Fun Ride’ for School Children in the age group of 8-18 years, a 7 Km ‘Maza ride’ for people from all age brackets and a 7 Kms ‘Corporate Ride’ for Executives from the business world will be organised. The major attraction at the Cyclothon will be a National competitive race in which as many as 100 professional cyclists will show their prowess. This will encompass a grueling 57.5 Kilometres distance.
‘Chandigarh Cyclothon’ is being brought to the city by the World’s largest Cycle manufacturer Hero Cycles in association with Chandigarh Administration. The mega event is being organized by — Starbizz India, under its sports management subsidiary – Sportz 13 along-with Cycling Federation of India, Sports Authority of India & Sports Department, Chandigarh(UT). It is noteworthy that the Cyclothon will also receive support from Chandigarh Tourism.
A press meet was organized to announce the start of registrations of the Chandigarh Cyclothon. Said Mr. Yadvinder Singh, CEO, Starbizz India & Director,Sports 13, “Those desirous of participating in the Non Competitive races can download a simple registration form from our website www.chandigarhcyclothon.com or mail at [email protected] or [email protected] or contact 9815409107 between December 2 and 18.”
According to Mr. Kashish Mittal, IAS, Director, Tourism (UT), “The city provides a perfect setting for this sporting event. The city with its sprawling green belts, flora & fauna is a nature lovers’ paradise and the sport of cycling goes well with this image. We will be making holistic security arrangements, as Chandigarh Police & Traffic police will be pressed into service and there will be adequate first aid and ambulances also stationed to meet any medical emergency. Refreshments will be served to participants. The Municipal Corporation Chandigarh will also be a partner in the event.”
An expo will be conducted on December 19 & 20 at Leisure valley, Sec 10 in which a goody bag with chest numbers, route map etc will be given to participants. The Expo will be held from 10.00 am – 8 pm. The Elite National race will see prizes being given to all cyclists who get a position from First to Tenth. The prize money to be distributed amongst the athletes will be Rs 3 lakhs. All the races –competitive and non competitive, will be flagged off from Jan Marg in Sec 10 and will end at the start point.
