NewZNew (Chandigarh) : Grewal Eye Institute (GEI), region’s leading eye care chain, sponsored a meeting of Defence Services Civilian Pensioners Welfare Association (Regd) that conveyed its thanks to Hon’ble Union Defence Minister Sh. Manohar Parrikar for grant of CSD Canteen Facilities to Retired Defence Civilians. Defence Civilian Pensioners showed their happiness on grant of long awaited demand of CSD Canteen facilities at the meeting. The meeting was held at GEI auditorium in Sector 9, Chandigarh.
Post the meeting, Dr. Manpreet Brar and Dr. Mukesh Aggarwal of Grewal Eye Institute shared informative eye care tips followed by general hygiene & dietary tips by the renowned cook-book author Mrs Sarita Khurana.
Dr. Manpreet Brar, while speaking on the occasion of World Diabetes Day, talked about how the changing lifestyle, inclination towards junk food and increased longevity have led to an exponential increase in diabetics. Briefing the audience, Dr. Manpreet Brar said “The loss of vision due to Diabetic Retinopathy is debilitating. Diabetic Macular Edema and Cataract are two major reasons for loss of vision. Proliferative diabetic retinopathy and Vitreous hemorrhage are the other major causes of loss of vision. The recent years have seen rapid progress in diagnosis and treatment of Diabetic Macular Edema. Better understanding of the genesis of the disease and availability of newer tools have brought a paradigm shift from preventing further loss of vision in diabetics to improving their vision.”
Dr. Mukesh Aggarwal gave general eye care tips for the elderly and explained the necessity of regular eye check-ups and the role of Ophthalmologist. He informed that ” A cataract is a clouding of the eye’s natural lens, which lies behind the iris and the pupil. Cataracts are the most common cause of vision loss in people over age 40 and is the principal cause of blindness in the world. One should ensure proper eye care and checkups from time to time.
Mrs. Sarita Khuranna, the famous nutritionist shed light on benefits of food rich in nutrients. Speaking on the occasion, she said “The adaptation to modern lifestyle has paved way for numerous health problems such as obesity, anxiety, depression and many more. We should ensure that our diet is healthy and consists of all the required nutrients. One should restrict the intake of junk food and focus on a healthy lifestyle.
GEI honored and awarded 6 most brilliant students, namely, Mahika Chaudhary, Aryan Khan, Geetanjali, Vishal, Ria Chaudhary and Madhav from Tricity on the occasion of Children’s Day so as to encourage them to keep up the academic and extracurricular activities. These 6 students have been chosen from numerous entries received from different schools (one entry per school) on the basis of their achievements.
