NewZNew (Chandigarh) : It is a known fact that eating right as well as exercise are keys to a healthier life. Keeping this in mind, an interesting and fun afternoon celebrating fitness and health with almonds, was organized in Chandigarh. Distinguished nutritionist Shreya Goel and popular fitness expert Shobhna Juneja from Chandigarh came together to talk about the multiple benefits of consuming almonds, every day. Almonds offer natural goodness in every bite and contain essential nutrients that contribute to a wholesome, healthy and fit life.
The nutritionist shed light on the various benefits of eating almonds and spoke about their anti-oxidant qualities (being rich in vitamin E), role in satiety and weight management, diabetes and maintaining a healthy heart as demonstrated by decades of published research. This was followed by a fun 15 minute workout session by the energetic fitness expert who in addition to sharing some simple and quick workout combinations, also spoke about the importance of a healthy diet including almonds, to help lead a healthy and fit life.
Shreya Goel said, “Indians are becoming more conscious about their health and have started paying more attention to the meals they prepare or serve their family but snack time is still overlooked. We tend to eat unhealthy ‘in-between-meal’ snacks which can potentially negate the hard work put into our health otherwise. Hence, we encourage snacking smart with almonds as a great way to start leading a healthier lifestyle. Snacking on these nuts instead of consuming unwholesome snacks, can make a healthy difference to our lives. Almonds are also a natural source of many essential nutrients, including protein and healthy fats, making them a nutrient-rich snack that can help keep you going throughout the day.”
Goel adds“ In addition, a study published in the European Journal of Clinical Nutrition found that consuming 43 grams of dry-roasted, lightly salted almonds every day reduced hunger and improved dietary vitamin E and monounsaturated (“good”) fat intake without increasing body weight. Hence, helping you get important nutrients and manage hunger”.
Shobhna Juneja, Fitness Expert, who charged up the audience with the fun workout session said, “Fitness and a healthy diet go hand in hand. In addition to working out every day, it is essential to eat right. Your daily intake must include food items that are rich in essential nutrients. Incorporating small changes in your life like eating a handful of almonds every day and working out regularly will help you maintain a healthy life. In fact almonds are a source of many important nutrients such as vitamin E, dietary fiber, protein, riboflavin etc. and can be the perfect snack option. Whether at home, work or workout, a handful (30 grams/23 almonds) of these nuts are a convenient snack that can be eaten anywhere, any time of the day and through the year.
Shobhna Juneja, Fitness Expert adds, “It is best to start small. You should look at incorporating small changes such as taking stairs instead of an elevator, keeping yourself hydrated, eating smaller meals 4-6 times a day. Not only does it keep your metabolism going so you continue to burn calories, but it will also keep you from getting overly hungry.”
You can keep some almonds handy in a box in your gym bag so you will always have your perfect daily portion. You can also pair them with fresh, seasonal fruits, or include them in other snacks to make them more exciting
