Indian Nurses in High Demand Across the World, But Shortage in India – Dr. Kanika: Nurses have been serving patients since the time of Sushruta, the father of surgery, and have played a significant role in the healthcare sector. India is one of the few countries where nurses are highly preferred for patient care.
The demand for trained nurses from India is highest in countries like the UK, Malta, Australia, Canada, Germany, the Netherlands, Finland, and Saudi Arabia. After the Philippines, Indian nurses are the second largest group working globally. This makes India the second-largest producer of nurses. The higher salaries and cleaner lifestyles in these countries are also key reasons for this trend.
The demand for nurses abroad is highest in ambulance services, emergency care, mental health, and elder care. According to Dr. Kanika, the founder of Kanika Nursing Academy, while the starting salary of an MBBS doctor in government hospitals in India is around ₹1 to ₹1.25 lakh per month, Indian nurses working abroad are earning significantly higher wages.
As a result, Dr. Kanika, who has been preparing students for nursing entrance exams in Chandigarh for the past 10 years, is now expanding her academy to Sundernagar in Himachal Pradesh. The inauguration of the new academy will be done by the area MLA, Rakesh Jamwal, on March 31.
