City participated in this worldwide celebration, ISKCON’s founder Srila Prabhupada boarded Jaladuta ship from Kolkata 50 years ago to preach in the West
NewZNew (Chandigarh) : Loud chanting of Hare Krishna amongst the beats of drums and other musical instruments were echoed in Sector-22 on Thursday where a number of Hare Krishna devotees gathered for a Shobha Yatra organized by the Chandigarh chapter of International Society for Krishna Consciousness (ISKCON). His Divine Grace A.C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada, the founder-acharya of ISKCON left for the West in a historic voyage by ship named Jaladuta. He boarded Jaladuta on 13th August 1965. The Shobha Yatra marked the ‘Jaladuta Yatra Golden Jubilee Festival’ which was celebrated all over the world.
Today, ISKCON is engaged in preaching unalloyed pure devotional service to the Lord all over the world through chanting of His holy names and preaching the message contained in Bhagavad Gita. The co-president of ISKCON Chandigarh, Sector-36, Nand Maharaj Das told, “In October 1976, His Divine Grace A.C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada visited Chandigarh, the city beautiful and spoke to a large audience which includes many dignitaries for 5 days at Nehru Park in Sector-22, Chandigarh. To commemorate the historic and auspicious visit of Srila Prabhupada to New York by Jaladuta, we organized the Shobha Yatra.”
The Shobha Yatra began from parking area of Nehru Park, Sector-22 and concluded at Sri Satya Narayan Mandir, Sector-22C Chandigarh after passing through Sector-22B, Dividing road Sec-22B & 22C, Shastri Market, Dividing Sec-22A & 22D, Sector 22D, Sector 22C.
