NewZNew (Chandigarh) : A One day Junior Golf Tournament for Boys & Girls will be organized by The British School (TBS), Sec 44, Chandigarh at Chandigarh Golf Club (CGC) on Sunday, April 17. The tournament will be played in A, B, C, D, and E categories as per the IGU guidelines. While TBS Golf Academy will organize the sporting event at CGC, Academy of Golf, Chandigarh Golf Club will make available technical support. Manjit Kochar, Jt. Director, Academy of Golf, Chandigarh Golf Club said, “The participants in category A, B, C, D will play 18 holes and category E will play 9 holes. Prizes will be awarded in all categories to 1st, 2nd and 3rd positions. There will be special prizes for nearest to the pin and maximum birdies in all categories.”
The British School, Chandigarh which also has a 9 hole pitch & putt course in the school’s Sec 44, Chandigarh premises, organizes tournaments for Junior Golfers every year. According to Mona Sethi, Principal, The British School, Chandigarh, “Our school is one of the few in the region which have a first class miniature golf course. This time we are holding a tournament for the children who will play on a regular golf course, at Chandigarh Golf Club.”
The entries for the tournament were declared open at a press conference held in Chandigarh, these will be accepted till 5 PM on April 15. Jaspal Singh Sidhu, Chairman (Tournament Committee), Chandigarh Golf Club said, “The Chandigarh Golf Club conducts regular coaching camps, golf clinics and golf tournaments for juniors and sub-juniors regularly. The club has highly qualified teaching professionals like Harmeet Kahlon, Manjit Kochar, Ajay Gujral and Simran Sethi, who carry years of teaching and playing experience behind them.” Adds Sidhu, “We also encourage young golfers by conferring coaching & technical support to schools like The British School, Chandigarh which are propagating the game among youngsters at the grass-root level.”
The Young golfers will be from schools across tricity and some are expected to participate in the tournament from Jalandhar, Khanna and Ambala. Harmeet Kahlon, Director, Academy of Golf, CGC will inaugurate the tournament on April 17. The one day tournament will culminate with a Prize Distribution ceremony in the evening and the Chief Guest will be Birinder Gill, President, Chandigarh Golf Club.
