NewZNew (Chandigarh) : The Punjab government today unveiled a major initiative to rope in Non Government Organisation and eminent social activists to educate the consumers regarding their rights and duties so as to unleash a vibrant consumer movement in the state.
Speaking on the sidelines of book release function Food and Civil Supplies Minister Mr. Adaish Pratap Singh Kairon said that in a open economy it was imperative to have a strong consumer movement to keep a check on quality of products and services being offer to the consumers. He said that state government was in process of roping in eminent social activists and various known NGOS’ in district and block level consumer protection councils so that the local issues relating to consumers could be addressed effectively and quick action could be taken to redress the grievances pertaining to food and civil supplies department .
While releasing a souvenir of Sarup Singh Sewa Society Maddoke (Moga) highlighting the 10 year long social activities carried out by the Society in diverse fields. Mr. Kairon appreciated the efforts put in by the society towards education, girl child education, poor free education, imparting vocational training, youth welfare workshops, bal melas, drug de addiction programmes, career counseling and other motivational programmes for rehabilitating youth.
Highlighting the details of the 10-year old Sarup Singh Sewa Society, its Secretary Dr. Gurtek Singh Gill said that this society was carrying forward the vision of renowned social activist of Moga, S. Sarup Singh Gill. The Society apart from establishing two permanent institutions of formal and informal education has remained involved in a number of social events, academic programmes, seminars, workshops and donation campaigns for providing basic civic amenities to public. Besides this the society has also established a world class pre preparatory school for grooming the tiny tots to the other senior schools of international repute.
Present on the occasion were the S. Gurkeerat Singh Gill (IAS) former Additional Chief Secretary Maharashtra, Col.Gurlal Singh, Mrs. Manjit Kaur Gill and Mrs. Baljinder Kaur Gill.
