NewZNew (Chandigarh) : Around two dozen knee replacement patients took part in a joyride motorbikes rally during Max Super Specialty Hospital (MSSH), Mohali organised ‘ Ride to freedom’ bike-o-thon at Sukhna Lake today. The rally was flagged off by Prof. Kaptan Singh Solanki Governor of Punjab, Haryana and Administrator, UT, Chandigarh. It was led by Dr. Manuj Wadhwa, Director and Head, Max Elite Institute of Orthopedics and Joint Replacement and Mr. Sandeep Dogra, VP-Operations, Max Hospitals Punjab. The rally was organized by Max Hospital in association with Harley Davidson, Himalayan Chapter to commemorate World Arthritis Day.
Interestingly the brand ambassadors of ‘bike-a-thon’ was patients who had undergone knee and hip joint replacements. Dr Wadhwa said that they were once crippled with arthritis but today they have won over that disability and wanted to prove to the masses and people suffering from arthritis that the life ahead was beautiful.
In fact the participants moving enthusiastically around on bikes were an indication of how total hip and knee replacement was one of the most successful interventions in medicine. These gains in quality of life would allow large numbers of patients to retain their independence and function more actively in society, asserted Mr. Dogra.
Dr Wadhwa further said that total knee replacement and could offer tremendous improvements in quality of life even in the very young. Quality of life after surgery was indicated in improvements in pain, energy levels, sleep, social function and walking ability. It offered reliable relief of pain and considerable improvement in function in patients suffering with osteoarthritis or inflammatory arthritis of the knee. Today’s demonstration was an indication of the same.
Meanwhile during occasion, around 300 people from all walks of life participated in a marathon to spread the message of keeping the joints healthy. Artist and actor, Savita Bhatti and Nirmal Kaur, wife of Flying Sikh, Milkha Singh were also presented during occasion.
