Mahindra’s Electric Evolution: The XEV 9e and BE 6e – A Bold Leap into the Future of SUVs: Back in 2022, Mahindra unveiled its range of “Born Electric Vehicle (BEV)” concepts in Banbury, UK on 15th August.
With a series of announcements regarding investments in the EV space, it also setup MEAL – Mahindra Electric Automobile Limited to focus on its future EVs.
As we move closer to the final unveil, Mahindra has rechristened its e-SUVs as “Mahindra Electric Origin SUVs. A fresh range of all-electric SUVs that blend innovation with the rugged reliability Mahindra is known for are set to unveil in Chennai at the Unlimit India on 26th November.
A notable part of this transformation is the renaming of key models: the XUV E9 now emerges as the XEV 9e, and the BE 05 is introduced as the BE 6e, or “Be Six e.” These changes underscore Mahindra’s commitment to creating SUVs that are, as they put it, “Indian at heart, global in their reach.”
Some speculations on what the XEV 9e and BE 6e might offer
While the full details of Mahindra’s upcoming electric SUVs are yet to be revealed, there’s ample room to speculate on what these pioneering vehicles could bring to the table. Here’s what we anticipate:
Sophisticated Yet Rugged Design: Mahindra’s SUVs have always been synonymous with a rugged aesthetic and solid build, and it’s likely the XEV 9e and BE 6e will continue this trend while being sensuous and sophisticated.
If you look at the teasers launched so far, the products feature refined, aerodynamic lines with striking LEDs. These models conceived at Mahindra Advanced Design Europe (M.A.D.E.) blend Indian design heritage with European refinement for a balanced yet distinctive appearance.
The INGLO Architecture: Power Meets Performance
Both models are built on Mahindra’s innovative INGLO platform, a tech-rich, modular architecture that could support a range of configurations and offer best-in-class safety, efficiency, and performance. INGLO may enable these SUVs to achieve substantial range and durability while accommodating various battery options to appeal to a wider audience.
With INGLO’s robust framework, expect fast charging capabilities, high torque outputs, and smooth transitions between different terrains, making the XEV 9e and BE 6e perfect companions for both city commutes and off-road escapades. Whether they offer AWD is yet to be revealed.
Driver-Centric Technology and Connectivity
Considering the concepts revealed in Banbury, and later in Cape Town, South Africa in 2023, Mahindra’s Electric SUVs are likely to come equipped with a fully digital cockpit, advanced connectivity, and human-machine interface (HMI) integrations that redefine the driving experience.
From intuitive infotainment systems to driver-assist technologies, these SUVs may introduce cutting-edge digital features, including ADAS (Advanced Driver Assistance Systems), designed to enhance safety and comfort for every journey. Spy shots suggest an edge-to-edge screens.
R. Rahman’s Audio Signature: A Sonic Experience
An extraordinary highlight of Mahindra’s electric journey is the collaboration with Oscar-winning composer A. R. Rahman. Rahman has crafted over 75 unique sounds for the Mahindra Electric Origin SUVs lineup, covering everything from drive mode indicators to notification alerts.
This immersive audio experience adds an artistic layer to driving. Rahman’s involvement promises to make the driving experience uniquely emotional, enhancing the Mahindra Electric SUV’s appeal through an authentic Indian sonic identity.
Advanced Safety and Sustainability Measures
With INGLO’s robust structure, Mahindra could prioritize both safety and sustainability in the XEV 9e and BE 6e. Anticipate class-leading safety standards that align with global requirements, making these models a safe and reliable choice for families. It will be interesting to see if Battery as A Service (BAAS) ownership models will be unveiled at Chennai at the Unlimit India launch.
The Journey Ahead: Why Mahindra Electric SUVs Are a Game-Changer
The Mahindra Electric SUV lineup represents more than just new products—it’s a redefinition of Mahindra’s legacy in the electric age. By rebranding under a single, unified name, Mahindra is solidifying its commitment to sustainable innovation with an Indian identity and a global vision.
