NewZNew (Chandigarh) : Amway Opportunity Foundation (AOF), a registered non-profit organization, and National Association for the blind (NAB) observed the ‘International White Cane Day’ in Chandigarh today. On the occasion, Divine Eyes, a group of visually-challenged students from NAB – Chandigarh and Ludhiana centers, enacted a play on the famous Punjabi Sufi poet Bulleh Shah.

Sh. Vijay Dev, Advisor to the Administrator, Chandigarh graced the occasion as the chief guest. Mrs. Bhawna Garg, Secretary, Social Welfare, Chandigarh and Ms. Nishu Singhal, Director, Social Welfare, Chandigarh were among the special dignitaries present on the occasion.

The play based on the life of Bulleh Shah, a famous Punjabi Sufi poet and philosopher, was meticulously performed by Divine Eyes, who mesmerized the audience with their emotional intensity. Being visually-challenged didn’t pose any obstacle for the actors and the entire theatre reverberated with applause during each part of the play.

Mr. G. S. Cheema, Member – Executive Committee, Amway Opportunity Foundation, said, “At AOF, we have been supporting and promoting the importance and significance of white canes for the visually-challenged by supporting such unique events. It is heartening to see the zeal of these individuals translating into such a soul-stirring performance. I am overwhelmed by what I have seen today and delighted to be in the august company of such talented individuals.”

“At AOF, we have always undertaken initiatives to support the visually-challenged. We have been working for the cause of the visually challenged ever since 1999, when we launched National Project for the visually challenged. Over the years, Amway Opportunity Foundation has benefitted more than 100,000 visually challenged individuals especially children” he added.

Mr. Vinod Chadha, Hony. President, National Association for the blind, said, “I would like to thank Amway Opportunity Foundation for their continuous support towards the visually-challenged. It has helped build such confidence in these children that today they can stand shoulder to shoulder with the normal individuals. Their spirits confirm that nothing is impossible and no disability can restrain anyone from achieving great heights. Looking at the talent of these children, I can proudly say that they are no less than the rest of the society.
