NewZNew (Bathinda) : PAU Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Bathinda organized a training-cum-demonstration programme on “Mushroom cultivation and Processing” for farmers and farm women. Dr. Jagdish Grover, Associate Director, KVK, Bathinda, while interacting with trainees said that the cultivation of mushroom has emerged as profitable subsidiary occupation for the farmers.
He further added that the diversification of agriculture is the need of the hour, so by adopting enterprise like mushroom cultivation, famers can get good returns. During the programme, trainees visited PAU’s Mushroom Farm and here Dr. Shammi Kapoor, Senior Microbiologist, Department of Microbiology, PAU arranged the practical demonstration for various important stages in compost making, spawning and cultivation of white button mushroom for participants.
Trainees also visited Department of Food Science and Technology, PAU, for expert lecture on “processing of mushroom” by Dr. Poonam Sachdev, Senior Vegetable Technologist. She explained various processing methods for surplus mushrooms like pickling, canning, drying etc. Dr. Amarjeet Kaur, Head, Department of Food Science and Technology also interacted with trainees. The whole training programme was coordinated by Dr. Gurpreet Kaur Dhillon, Assistant Professor, KVK, Bathinda.
