NewZNew (Chandigarh/Panchkula) : An impressive display of spin bowling by Mohammad Ali (6 for 23) helped Punjab Panthers to an emphatic 40 win over Mumbai Masters in the opening match of the 20 overs-a-side Youth Premier League (YPL) which got off to a start at Tau Devi Lal Stadium in Panchkula on Monday.
Two matches were played on the first day of the maiden League for 14-25 years age category, in which 8 franchisee teams from various parts of the country are participating. From tomorrow the venue shifts to Sector 16 Cricket Stadium, Sector 16, Chandigarh, for the remaining matches.
Batting first Punjab Panthers put up a 150 run total for the loss of 7 wickets in their allotted 20 overs. Sukhwinder top scored for them with 38 runs, including four boundaries. In reply, Mumbai Masters never looked to be threatening the Punjab Panthers total and right arm leg spinner Mohammad Ali spun a web around the Mumbai Masters’ batsmen to settle the issue.
In the other match of the day reduced to 18 overs-a-side, Haryana Heroes registered an emphatic 10 wicket victory over Gujarat Lions, who were bundled out for a palty 96.
