Riders of the Storm (ROS) set to organize Grand Finale of the Mountain Biking : At least 60 teams have registered for the grand finale of the EVA-ROS, an exciting event in mountain biking on January 13.
Organized by the Riders of the Storm, the approximately 35-kilometre race will be held in the foothills of the Shivalik hills, adjoining Chandigarh.
The event of riding on specially designed bikes, mostly over rough roads and mountain trails, offers prize money worth Rs 2.2 lakhs in four different categories for Junior Men (Under 18 years), Elite Men (18-39 years), Masters Men (more than 40 years) and Women( all age groups).
The exciting event for mountain biking lovers will feature teams from Bir Billing, Shimla, New Delhi, Manali and Dehradun, besides few other places. Few top teams included Team Hero, Team Cannondale and Team Btwin.
The Circuit for the race is a 5.5 Kms loop. The race will offer short power climbs, downhill thrills, river bed, jeep track, Single Track Trail, Mountain Climbs, Mountain Descents, Jeep Off Road Tracks, Tarmac and River Bed. Riders will be crossing fields, rocky terrain and rocky gorges during their exciting ride.
Founded in 2016, the Riders of the Storm (ROS), has more than 150 members in the tricity. The group has members as young as 13 years and as old as 55 years. The rides are largely organized during the weekends.
The grand finale, this year, is dedicated to the memory of the founder of the group, Amit Chopra. Suffering from cancer, he died towards the end of December 2016. Certain team members reorganized in early 2018 and started the work where it had been left unfinished after the death of Amit.
The Riders of the Storm has also tied up with Ex Vivekiete Association (EVA) for the event and they have started promoting Mountain Biking as a Sport amongst the students, alumni and faculty members. The association planned to reach out to other schools and expand their base in promoting the event, especially when Chandigarh is the one of the best places to take up mountain biking considering its locations in the foothills.
The Chief Guest for the occasion is the first triathlon ironman from the Indian army, Major General Vikram Dogra. The event in Austria comprised of three consecutive events of 3.8 kms swim, 180 kms cycling and 42.2 kms marathon, all of which he completed in a day without a break.
