- NOMINATIONS STARTS AND MODEL CODE OF CONDUCT ENFORCED IN THE JURISDICTION OF CONCERNED AREAS FROM TODAY
- POLLING AND COUNTING OF VOTES WOULD BE HELD ON FEBRUARY 25
NewZNew (Chandigarh) : State Election Commission today issued notification regarding elections of the 123 Municipal Councils/ Nagar Panchayats and one ward in Nagar Panchayat of Bariwala in district Sri Muktsar Sahib.
Disclosing this here today Mr. S.S. Brar, State Election Commissioner said that the nominations has also started from today with the issuance of notification for the elections. He said that the Code of Conduct shall come into force immediately from today. The Code of Conduct will operate in all area that fall within the jurisdiction of these 123 Municipal Councils/ Nagar Panchayats and the Nagar Panchayat where a bye poll is to be held and will end on 27th February, 2015.
The nominations will be received from 11.00 AM to 3.00 PM from today, last date for filing nominations shall be February 13, date of scrutiny shall be February 14 and the last date for withdrawal of candidature is February 16. The polling shall be conducted on February 25 and the counting of votes will be taken up soon thereafter at the polling booth itself.
Mr. Brar stated that the 123 Municipal Councils/ Nagar Panchayats and one ward in Nagar Panchayat of Bariwala district Sri Muktsar Sahib comprising a total electorate of 28, 50,000 approximately. This total electorate will vote in 2062 wards, in approximately over 3500.
The State Election Commissioner stated that all required election materials have been dispatched to the districts. The EVMs are currently under inspection for being declared election worthy. The DGP, Punjab has been requested to ensure proper and adequate security for the electoral process.
