NewZNew (S A S Nagar) : Gian Jyoti Group of Institutions organized a seminar to observe World No-Tobacco Day in the campus. Amidst a large gathering of the students Chairman J S Bedi & other officials of the institution focused on the harms of tobacco. The need of the hour is to spread awareness, especially among the youth, about the harmful effects of tobacco products, was underlined during the workshop.
Director Dr. Vimal Aggarwal explained in detail the havoc that cause by smoking of cigarettes, bidis and use of gutkha and pan masala, inflicted upon the human body, besides polluting the environment.
Chairman Bedi said at this occasion that according to a survey by the World Health Organization (WHO), Tobacco kills 4.5 million people worldwide every year and out of them, approximately one million are Indians. Tobacco claims one life every eight seconds. It remains one of the most important causes for preventable mortality and morbidity. In India, it is responsible for one in every four deaths. He said there was a need to inculcate moral values among the youth so that they could say no to drugs. Director Dr. Vimal Aggarwal lauded the efforts of the college management in this regard and appreciated efforts of students.
