Rumjhum Chatterjee takes over as Deputy Chairman, CII NR
NewZNew (Chandigarh) : Mr Shreekant Somany, Chairman & Managing Director, Somany Ceramics Ltd has been elected as the new Chairman of Confederation of Indian Industry (CII), Northern Region for the year 2015 – 16, while Ms Rumjhum Chatterjee has been elected as the Deputy Chairperson. She is Group Managing Director – Human Capital Development of Feedback Infra Pvt Ltd.
Apprising on CII’s focus for the year 2015-16, Mr Somany said that “CII Northern Region’s theme for the year 2015-16 will be ‘Build India, Build North : Invest in Development’. CII’s endeavours would primarily focus on facilitating investments, enhancing ease of doing business, promoting Make in North, ensuring peaceful industrial relations, enhancing MSMEs competitiveness, supporting agriculture, strengthening Infrastructure (both social and industrial) and societal initiatives including focus on Affirmative Action, Sanitation in Schools, CSR, Women Empowerment, etc”.
“Skill development, good governance and inclusivity will continue to remain as the focus of CII’s regional work”, he added.
“CII would draw and implement a sustainable growth model for the northern region, which on one hand is seeing an unprecedented scale of urbanization and on the other has a very strong agriculture-based economy”, further informed Mr Somany.
Mr Somany, a Bachelor of Science graduate from Kolkata University, joined the family business in 1969. In the year 1994 he took charge of Somany Ceramics Ltd as the Managing Director, and later on in the year 2005, he became the Chairman & Managing Director of the company.
He has been associated with various Federations and Associations which includes Past President of the All India Glass Manufacturers Association, Past President, Confederation of Construction Products and Services, Past Chairman, Indian Council for Ceramic Tile and Sanitaryware, Past President, Rotary Club of Delhi Midtown, Co-Chairman, Cera Glass 2010 & 2012 (held at Jaipur) exhibition jointly organized by the CII, Govt of Rajasthan and the Ministry of Commerce, Govt of India. He was also Chairman of the Northern Region CII Family Business Network.
Somany Ceramics Ltd. has won The American Ceramic Society’s Corporate Technical Achievement Award for the development of Somany Veil Craft (VC) Shield Floor Tiles.
Today, the company has a manufacturing base to produce 19.15 million sqm of ceramic tiles annually across two plant locations in Bahadurgarh (Haryana) near Delhi and Kadi (Gujarat) near Ahmedabad. In addition to own manufacturing, Somany Ceramics Ltd also outsources about 10 million sqm of tiles per annum from domestic / international manufacturers. It currently employs around 2600 persons, with a turnover of nearly 1300 crores. The company offers the widest range of ceramic tiles in the country and has a strong pan India sales distribution network and also exports its material to various countries the Middle East, East and Central Africa, Europe, Latin America, South Asia and South East Asia.
Ms Rumjhum Chatterjee, the newly elected Deputy Chairperson of CII NR is the Group Managing Director – Human Capital Development of Feedback Infra Pvt Ltd. An Alumni of Calcutta University, where she studied Psychology, she is one of the co-founders of the Feedback Infra Group (erstwhile Feedback Infrastructure Services Pvt. Ltd.) and also serves as the Chairperson of the Feedback Foundation Trust.
Over the years, she has been actively involved with CII and has also served it in various capacities including being the Vice Chairperson of the CII National Council on Women Empowerment and Co-Chair for the Jury of the Selection Committee for CII’s Women Exemplary Award. She has also served as the Chairperson of CII Delhi State Council for the year 2009-10 and been an elected member of the Northern Regional Council for several years. Apart from this, she has served on the Governing Board of HelpAge India and on the Board of Trustees of 3E Education Trust (HDFC Schools).
