NewZNew (Chandigarh) : Smt. Poonam Sharma, Mayor of Chandigarh today visited Model Jail Chandigarh along with Mr Vivek Trivedi Social Development Officer MC Chandigarh. She interacted with Female and Male Prisoners and listened to them. Upon their request, she promised three skill training programme for them namely Beauty Care, Refrigeration and Computer Fundamentals free of cost under National Urban Livelihood Mission implemented by Municipal Corporation Chandigarh.
She said that the visit held in continuation to a meeting held in MC organized by poverty alleviation on identifying vulnerable groups under poverty alleviation.
She said, the training will give them a chance to spend peaceful time in learning which will further bring transformation in the lives of convicts and young under-trials. It will also assist them in rehabilitation after their due release from prison and also support in restoring their respectful life.
She promised to start the courses in short period once all the procedural formalities are done from prison department and municipal corporation Chandigarh.
