NewZNew (Chandigarh) : Taking a serious view of the security lapses leading to the killing of a person (Sukha Kahlwan) while in police custody, S. Sukhbir Singh Badal, Dy. Chief Minister, Punjab has ordered the transfer of Smt. Dhanpreet Kaur, Senior Superintendent of Police, Kapurthala and Sh. Gursewak Singh, Superintendent of Police, Phagwara with immediate effect. Sh. Ashish Chaudhary, IPS has been posted as the new Senior Superintendent of Police, Kapurthala and Sh. Rajeshwar Singh Sidhu has been posted as the Superintendent of Police, Phagwara.
Sh. Paramjit Singh Gill, the Inspector General of Police, Zone-I, Patiala examined the lapses on the part of police party escorting Sukha Kahlwan, as it had failed to resist the assailants. 02 ASIs who were incharge of the police escort party have been dismissed from service and 04 police officials who were members of the police party have been suspended and departmental enquiry for major penalty of dismissal has been instituted against them.
The Inspector General of Police, Zone-II, Jalandhar is personally supervising the investigation of the case. He is being assisted by the Commissioner of Police, Jalandhar. The main assailants have been identified and police parties dispatched to nab them. Initial investigation shows it to be a case of an attack on Sukha Kahlwan (deceased) by members of a rival gang. The main assailants have old police record and had absconded while out on bail/parole.
