‘Tumhari Aukat Kya Hai’ the autobiography of actor Piyush Mishra released by  filmmaker, Anurag Kashyap: ‘Tumhari Aukat Kya Hai’ the autobiography of renowned actor-lyricist-singer, Piyush Mishra was released by filmmaker Anurag Kashyap in the presence of esteemed guests at Punjab Kala Bhawan here.

The event was organized by Adab Foundation and Rajkamal Prakashan Samuh.

The book gives an account of Piyush Mishra’s life journey, hardships, struggles and successes. At the book launch, the author discussed in detail about his new book with Anurag Kashyap and Mitul Dixit, Chairman of Adab Foundation.

In the conversation, Piyush openly shared many aspects about his life, of which few people are aware.

Born in the city of Gwalior, Madhya Pradesh, Piyush was brought up in a middle-class family, where he was later asked to study medicine or engineering. But at a very young age, he started taking interest in theater and music and decided to choose this profession.

Piyush joined the National School of Drama (NSD) in Delhi, where he acted in the play ‘Hamlet’ and it was such a stupendous success that he earned the nickname ‘Hero of NSD’.  He completed his NSD studies in 1986.

There was a lot of struggle in Piyush’s life. He could not move to Mumbai like most of his peers and even refused a role in Sooraj Barjatya’s Maine Pyar Kiya in 1989, as theatre was his first love. Gradually, he started getting projects to compose film music. He got his big break with Anurag Kashyap’s film ‘Gulaal’, in which he got an opportunity to showcase his acting, singing and songwriting skills, which brought him to the spotlight.

He starred in Anurag Kashyap’s ‘Gangs of Wasseypur’, wrote for ‘Black Friday’ and starred in ‘Maqbool’. His song ‘Aarambh Hai Prachanda’ from ‘Gulal’ was a huge hit.

During the NSD days he used to be the centre of attraction of the opposite sex and was like a Casanova. He has also created the band ‘Ballimaran’ and is spreading the magic of his songs written during NSD days. He had a tough time coming out of alcohol addiction and had a stroke once, but was able to recover through natural remedies after he was introduced to these by  Vishal Bhardwaj, the renowned film director, screenwriter, and producer.
