NewZNew (S A S Nagar) : The World No Tobacco Day was observed at Universal Group of Institutions through flurry of activities. At the moment rising figures of tobacco consumption and related hazards were also discussed. This program was mainly conducted to improve the awareness among students and youngsters about harms of tobacco consumption, possible risks of cancer related to tobacco use and major cardiovascular disorders. More than 500 students from different disciplines participated in this program and supported to promote smoking cessation. Students also took pledge to promote the theme “Say No to smoking”.
This program was inaugurated by Dr. Gurpreet Singh, Chairman, Universal Group of Institutions with key message on risk of cancer with tobacco use. According to him it is need of the hour to spread awareness, especially among the youth, about the harmful effects of tobacco products. He further explained in detail the havoc that cause by smoking of cigarettes, bidis and use of gutkha and pan masala, inflicted upon the human body, besides polluting the environment. He said there is a need to inculcate moral values among the youth so that they could say no to drugs.
