Under Ashirwad scheme Rs 15.17 crore released for Backward Classes and Economically Weaker Sections: Dr. Baljit Kaur : Punjab government led by Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann, is continuously working for the welfare of every section, it is also making consistent efforts for the welfare of the Backward Classes and Economically Weaker Sections. Social Justice, Empowerment and Minorities Minister Dr. Baljit Kaur expressed that an amount of Rs. 15.17 crore has been released during the current year under the Ashirwad scheme for the Backward Classes and Economically Weaker Sections by the Punjab government.
Divulging in this regard, Dr. Baljit Kaur stated that the release of this amount covered 2975 beneficiaries of March 2023 Backward Classes and Economically Weaker Sections. She mentioned that under the Ashirwad scheme, financial assistance of up to Rs. 51,000 is provided by the state government for the marriage of girls belonging to low-income families in the state.
Cabinet minister said that to avail the benefits of the Ashirwad scheme, the applicant should be a permanent citizen of Punjab state, their family should be below the poverty line, the applicant should belong to Scheduled Caste, Backward Classes and other economically weaker families, and all family members should be eligible. If the annual income from sources is less than Rs 32,790, two daughters of such families are eligible to benefit from this scheme.
Minister further stated that the government is committed to the welfare of the people of Scheduled Castes, Backward Classes, and Economically Weaker Sections. She mentioned that the payment of financial assistance is made directly into the bank accounts of the beneficiaries.
