NewZNew (Panchkula) : Save the Children in collaboration with Women and Child Development Department of Haryana Government launched a video van campaign ‘Yes, Children have rights” here today.
Chief Minister of Haryana, Manohar Lal Khattar flagged off the video vans from Indradhanush Auditorium here to mark the launch of the event. Save the Children is a leading, independent child rights organisation that works in India and in over 120 countries around the world.
Three vans which will visit 290 villages of Hisar, Sirsa and Fatehabad districts of Haryana will create awareness on child rights through a nukkad natak followed by screening of an animated film on the subject. The campaign is part of a larger child rights programme being implemented by Save the Children in Haryana and Punjab.
“Lack of awareness on child rights is one of the important reasons for incidences of child rights violations. Children are most vulnerable to incidences of abuse, exploitation and negligence and their voices are not heard easily in the community. Thus, the awareness campaign on child rights is of a prime importance,” said Jatin Mondar, Project Director, Save the Children, Punjab and Haryana State Programme Office.
The campaign will emphasize the message that Education, Protection, Equity and Respect are primary rights of children. Every person in the community has a duty to ensure that children are receiving their rights. Any incidences of violation of child rights or cases of children in need of care and protection should be referred to child protection committees formed in the villages under Integrated Child Protection Scheme of government.
This is a first year of three-year long campaign which will be implemented with the support of Women and Child Development of Department, Haryana Government. Post its launch in Haryana, the campaign will be expanded in Punjab’s 550 villages in the coming weeks.
“We are certain that with increased level of awareness on child rights, community will have more conducive environment for development of children,” added Jatin Mondar.
