Week-long events to commemorate Cancer Day culminate at Fortis Mohali: To commemorate World Cancer Day, Fortis Hospital Mohali organised a series of events as part of the ‘Cancer Week’ from 4th – 11th February. Survivors of different types of cancers of the breast, lung, neck and cervical also graced the occasion.

The event kicked off with the lamp-lighting ceremony by cancer survivors. This was followed by the Saraswati Vandana or the prayer meet. A lecture on cancer awareness by Dr Rajeev Bedi, Director, Oncology was also aired on the occasion.

Nursing staff and employees of the oncology ward presented a skit to sensitise the audience on cancer. Dr Naval Bansal, Endocrine & Breast Cancer Surgeon then gave a detailed analysis on breast cancer and its symptoms. Dr Swapna Misra, Director, Obstetrics & Gynaecology also discussed the importance of self-breast examination techniques. The cancer survivors were also felicitated and given momentos by Dr Bedi.

A panel discussion on dispelling myths about cancer was also held and invited a round of applause from the gathering.

Highlighting the need for organizing similar events to spread awareness, Dr Bedi, said, “Early diagnosis is crucial in treating cancer. Fortis Mohali boasts of the most-advanced treatment options which are a combination of chemotherapy, immunotherapy, radiotherapy and surgery. Fortis Cancer Institute offers comprehensive and compassionate care along with personalized treatment for patients.”

The welcome address was given by Ms. Madhavi Chikhale, Chief of Nursing, wherein she emphasized on spreading awareness about cancer. The team of panelists included Ashish Bhatia, Business Head, Rest of India, Fortis Healthcare; Abhijit Singh, Head-SBU; Air Marshal (Dr) RK Ranyal, Medical Director;; Dr Rajeev Kapoor, Additional Director, Oncology; Dr Narendra Kumar Bhalla, Director, Radiation Oncology; Dr Rajnish Talwar, Additional Director, Surgical Oncology; Dr RP Doley, Senior Consultant, General Surgery; Dr Ketan Dang, Consultant, Oncology; Dr Parvinder Chawla, Senior Consultant, Internal Medicine; Dr Anita Sharma, Head, Department of Lab; Santanu Chatterjee, Zonal Head HR; and Dr Arunjeet Kaur, Principal Medical Officer, Oncology.

The event concluded with a Vote of Thanks by Ms Chikhale.
