NewZNew (Chandigarh – Kulbir Singh Kalsi) : Bonfires, Revaris, Popcorn and playing to the folk tunes – that was the view in Dr. Ambedkar Institute of Hotel Management Catering & Nutrition, Sector 42D, Chandigarh as students, staff and faculty gathered around frizzling fire on Tuesday evening to rejoice the harvest festival of Lohri.
Traditionally associated with the harvest of the Rabi crop, people celebrated Lohri with feasting, exchange of gifts, and songs and dance around bonfires.
The bonfire was lit by Mrs Bharti Tyagi, Principal of the Institute to thank Agni Devta and seek blessings.
The function started with speeches in English and Punjabi highlighting the relevance of Lohri, which ushers in the cheerful spring season bidding adieu to the dull winter. Fun filled games such as kite flying were organized by the students in which all the members present participated enthusiastically followed by Bhangra and Giddha folk dances exhibiting the rich cultural of Punjab along with live band performances. Moreover, lip smacking munchies were also served to the people who were present in the festival with High Tea.
On this occasion, the Principal said, “Everyone is busy these days, but Lohri brings us together in the warmth of the bonfire in this nippy winter enjoying with kith and kins. Lohri is an occasion to rejoice with each other and share some merry moments.”
