NewZNew (Chandigarh) : students of Fashion Marketing & Management (FMM) and Garment Manufacturing Technology (GMT) at Northern India Institute of Fashion Technology, Mohali presented their final degree projects at a sector 43 hotel today.
The students work in conjunction with the known names of the industry for a period of three months and find out areas of concern thereby giving suggestions, implementing and helping the units to resolve the problems being faced by the factory or management.
The jury evaluating the degree projects comprised of Shashi Kanwal, Head Marketing, Groz & Beckert Asia Pvt Ltd, Anil Sharma,VP-HR,Nahar Industries and Vijaylaxmi, Merchandising Dept, Active Clothing, Chandigarh.
This year a total of 7 research projects from FMM department and 8 projects from GMT department were presented which focused on different areas like enhancing production, developing processes to meet deadlines, reducing the high labor cost, reducing delay due to unskilled labor , analyzing consumer demand, fashion forecasting and creating stories of web blogs etc.
A few of them are ; Navdeep and Robin worked on ‘Analyzing and minimization of defects by implementing quality tools’ by using the concept of six sigma where they tried to reduce the defects. Priyanka and Deepika worked on the topic ‘Six Sigma Implementation” using DMAIC methodology to reduce the percentage of defects. Whereas Mily worked on ‘Standard Operating Procedure in Visual Merchandising’ where she worked on the visual aspect to increase the sales and satisfaction of the customer. Kritika and Pooja worked on ‘Search Engine optimization in Digital Marketing’ to help understand the targeting strategies of the e-site.
Tanu Kashyap, Director General ,NIIFT who was chief guest during occasion briefed about the career opportunities for the students on the completion of Master’s Degree and wished them good luck.
Inderjit Singh, Director, NIIFT said that the presentations made by the students gave a deep analysis of the market conditions and productive competitiveness. Dr. Poonam Aggarwal, Dy. Registrar,NIIFT said that the projects presented by the students are the need of the industry and will definitely be of use to the Garment Industry.
Meanwhile NIIFT offers degree programs in M.Sc in FMM & GMT after graduation, B.Sc in Fashion Design after 10+2, B.Sc in Textile Design after 10+2 & B.Sc in Fashion Design (Knits) after 10+2. Admissions to the degree programs is based on clearing the entrance test which is scheduled for 4/6/2016. This year the last date of submission of applications is 25/05/2016. The entrance test is followed by the situation test/ interviews and counselling respectively. Details are available on the website www.niiftindia.com.
Later the awards were given to the winners which includes best degree project, most innovative project and most industry relevant project.
