NewZNew (Chandigarh – Kulbir Singh Kalsi) : Jan Jagrati, a Civil Society, organised programme to commemorate the International Thalassemia Day and increase awareness on Thalassemia prevention today at New Lake, Sector 42, Chandigarh by the Jan Jagrati, a civil society. Highlights of programme were Marathon and Walkathon of Thalassemia children, some of whom came all the way from PGIMER as early as 6AM. Sh Amir Chand Ji of Brahma Kumari Foundation was the Chief Guest and flagged off the marathon of around 300 participants including participants from various organisation i.e. Chandigarh Baptist School, Brahma Kumari brothers, and distributed awards to winners of the Marathon and certificates to all the participants and gave inspirational address to all present. Song on Thalassemia was also praised by all. The event was attended by more than 350 people. Other dignitaries who graced the occasion included Dr (Smt) Vandana Gupta, Medical Superintendent of GMSH, Sector 16, Chandigarh; Sh Sukhchain Singh Gill SSP Chandigarh; Dr Satvir Chaudhry Ex Director General Health Haryana; Dr Inusha Panigrahi Child Specialist APC PGI Chandigarh. The participants, especially children were very glad and thankful to the Jan Jagrati Society for this unique event and wanted such programmes more frequently.
Sh S P Yadav, founder Jan Jagriti and Advocate High Court, Chandigarh told that the society has organised many event on past including Sports and Education Awareness, Inspirational talks on Sanitation and illnesses. He told that it is very important to celebrate such days because the thalassemia children need constant care and attention. Further he said that the disease thalassemia is preventable.
