NewZNew (Chandigarh) : The inaugural function of Oil and Gas Conservation Fortnight (OGCF 2016) was organized at Bal Bhawan, Sector 23, Chandigarh, by Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Ltd. (HPCL), to generate awareness among the masses about the urgency of conserving petroleum products.
With non –renewable sources of energy depleting fast, the event highlighted activities undertaken and carried out by all concerned starting from Ministry of Petroleum & Natural Gas, Petroleum Conservation Research Association(PCRA), PSU Oil companies, Administration offices, transporters, educational institutes, students, children and media towards the National cause of conservation of petroleum products.
Mr. Ajit Balaji Joshi, IAS, Deputy Commissioner, Chandigarh, UT was the Chief Guest. He expressed the need of conservation of oil products as the Nation is dependent upon imports for its major requirement of crude oil at enormous quantity of foreign exchange.
The Deputy Commissioner also flagged of a mobile van which will travel across the city to spread the message of conservation of oil & gas.
Mr. Gagandeep Singh Sodhi, State Level Coordinator (Oil Industry), Chandigarh and Senior Regional Manager (HPCL), brought out the importance of conservation of oil & gas and highlighted activities to be undertaken during OGCF 2016 and the need to carry forward the same in daily life.
Mr. V K Goel Chief Regional Manager LPG HPCL; informed at the inaugural function that activities like Painting & Drawing competition based on the theme of conservation of Oil & Gas, LPG Clinics, Oil & Gas Conservation Cycle rally, Walkathon etc. will be held under OGCF 2016.
Speakers shared with the audience activities undertaken under OGCF in Chandigarh in the last few years and urged residents of Chandigarh to keep the city in forefront of Oil and Gas Conservation.
The theme of OGCF-2016 which will be held till 31st Jan 2016 is ‘Indhan ho Swachh – Jan Gan Rahein Swasth.’ So the stress will be on underlining the importance of clean energy & conservation of oil products to improve environmental conditions & reduce pollution. Safeguarding of natural resources to ensure a better future of coming generations will also be a highlight.
More than 300 students from various schools and colleges as well as industry members participated in the function. A quiz related to Oil & Gas Industry was conducted during the event & prizes were given to winners. The function concluded by taking pledge for conserving oil & gas in our day to day lives.
