270 physiotherapists attend ‘Physiotherapy Conference’ at Mohali
NewZNew (S A S Nagar) : As many as 270 physiotherapists across region attended a first-of-its-kind ‘Elite Physiotherapy Conference’ cum live surgery workshop at Max Super Speciality Hospital Mohali today. The conference was aimed to empower the role of physiotherapy in orthopedics via live surgeries, discussions and debates.
The workshop witnessed modalities and protocols with introduction of most updated high flex knee and hip systems & minimally invasive techniques which helps in faster recovery and benefits to patients.
During occasion, conference course director, Dr Manuj Wadhwa, Director, Max Elite Institute of Orthopedics, spoke at length about rehabilitation for sports injury patients, trauma patients and rehabilitation after joint replacement while giving live demonstrations.
Talking on a session on ‘anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) rehabilitation after surgery for sports persons’ , he said that an ACL tear is an injury to the knee which commonly affects sports persons. The key to successful treatment of an ACL tear is accurate and early rehabilitation.”
Educating on rehabilitation after joint replacement, he said that osteoarthritis (OA) is a common disease and one of the leading causes of disability. Patients with advanced stage of knee/hip osteoarthritis require total knee/hip replacement which helps in the treatment of painful and disabling joint pathologies. Rehabilitation after total knee and hip arthroplasty plays a very important role to obtain functional outcome in all patients.”
Deliberating on trauma rehabilitation, Dr Wadhwa said that orthopaedic trauma comes in many forms. Orthopaedic rehabilitation is a powerful tool for both restoring a patient’s physical abilities and reducing pain in all kinds of musculoskeletal disorders.”
Meanwhile the sessions were chaired by Dr Narkeesh Arumugam, Dean Faculty of Medicine and Professor Department of Physiotherapy, Punjabi University Patiala, Dr S Michael Raj, Associate Professor and HOD, Department of Physiotherapy, Lovely Professional University, Jalandhar and Dr Ajay Prashad Gautam, Vice Principal Physiotherapy, Chitkara University Chandigarh.
